Hello all,

I played a lot of golf in about 2008 and got to around a 7-8 handicap.  Now I'm getting back into the game and I'd like to get some equipment advice.  Here's the bag I had in my closet in 2008:

Taylormade r7 Driver

Taylormade Burner 3 and 5 Woods

Taylormade r7 XD Irons 4-PW (These things are super lofted so the gap between the PW and the 52* was insane)

Cleveland CG14 Wedges 48, 52, 58

Yes! Tiffany Putter

Now, obviously I need a ton of practice in order to get anywhere near where I was in 2008.  However, I'd like some advice as to what improvements you all think I should make in my bag.  Here are the clubs that I would like to end up with:

Callaway XR16 Pro Driver

Callaway XR16 Pro 3 and 5 Woods

Mizuno MP-25 Irons 4-PW

Titleist Vokey 52, 56, 60

Scotty Cameron Select Putter

Which of these upgrades do you all think is the most important for my game?  I think that my irons might be losing some of the grooving so that may be the primary focus.  What do you all think?  Thanks!

Driver: Taylormade r7

Fairway Woods: Taylormade Burner 3 and 5 woods

Irons: Taylormade r7 XD 4-PW

Wedges: Cleveland CG14 47*, 52*, and 58*

Putter: Yes! Tiffany

Ball: Nike One Tour (I found a box of these in my garage and they are great)

Get fit for an edel putter.  You won't ever need another one.

Your current set is more or less up to date technologically. Unless you get a really good custom fitting I don't think you'll see any noticeable improvement beyond the lovely shine of fresh metal.

As per @SavvySwede, play through the season and see if any of the clubs are letting your down.

Since you played well before, take a season to get your swing back into shape before you buy new gear.

Focus, connect and follow through!

This is a great suggestion. Play the season with what you got. Then you'll see them for what they are, or what they're not!

I was going to say it sounds like your clubs are pretty new...   If anything is damaged or you don't like a specific club I'd start there..      My irons are 30+ years old and let's just say I make a lot more mistakes than they do.   haha

I would start with the wedges.. You use them very often and they need the most time to get comfortable with.

Wedges and Putter. The R7 is a really good driver. you probably will not see much difference in performance unless it is totally unfit for your swing. Same with the other clubs. The wedges could have worn down grooves. Also, an unfit putter could cause you issues. If the long game clubs fit your swing pretty well then I recommend getting fit for wedges and a putter.

    • I had a few tweeks in the bag. I took out my Mizuno pro FliHi 3 iron replaced it with a Titleist GT2 7 Wood. what a change that is, so easy to hit, it goes so high without it ballooning on me. I couldn't get rid of my callaway woods ( Rogue ST Max LS ) but changed the shafts to Diamana BB 63 stiff for the driver and 73 stiff for the 3 wood. Than i got myself a new putter Odyssey S2S jailbird yes i joined the centershaft family
    • First off all i think you should use the same ball all the time. We all strive for consistency on the course, the only factor you can be sure it will be always the same is your ball if you always use the same. So i think we should always use the same. I recently switched from Titleist Pro V1x to Srixon Z-Star Diamond because it i get a bit softer feel around the greens and same results on driver and irons
