Bought em online ebay, got a great price. BUT not ready to give up yet

It's okay. I can't hit anything by TaylorMade either. I don't know what it is, but the ball never goes anywhere. Put a Cobra or Callaway in my hands and it's fine. TaylorMade? Nope.

I do not change clubs seasonally. Though I like to play new and different clubs. I do stick with a set for a 2-4 years. I am more likely to change drivers over other clubs.

Then what do you do with them. Keep em in a garage, sell at garage sale or trade up?

Can't speak for Seavel - but yeah . .when I upgrade I keep the old ones in the garage.  They usually stay intact for another upgrade or 2 and then my wife throws them out . .but she never manages to get them all.  All that's left of my old Wilson blades is the 3iron and the PW.  All that's left of my Ping I-5's is the 4, 7, 8 and 9.

Had a couple of Taylormade clubs - they didn't excite me so I sold them and bought some Cobra and Adams clubs - they excite me

As long as you are buying stuff, buy a Big Berth Alpha driver and send it to me...

I always liked underwhere. I used to play a game with my kiddos and say I saw something "under there" and they would ask me, "under where". Then I would say, "ha you said underwear." Corny but the kids loved it.

Send me $80 and I'll see to it that you receive a good used Big Bertha Alpha Driver. Or get one yourself on eBay for $50

I think I might pass on a counterfeit BB driver.

It's possible you're thinking of different clubs. The new one is $499 list and possibly $229 in discount places.

Although, I doubt it's worth the effort to sell a counterfeit to make $80.

Good deals on eBay for sure. Just bought a new Cobra Fly-Z+ driver for $99 shipped. It's for sure legit, reputable retail seller, has verifiable SN.

Nice price. I wanted the 816, maybe I will wait until next year...

Plus, IIRC your swing speed is pretty high so what people normally get for shafts won't really be a good option. You might be better off just paying full price and getting one of the premium shaft options that comes with that price?

At a Callaway demo day at my course, I was able to get custom fitting for my son who swings fast as well for $418, but he didn't want or need a new driver.

Is it just me or are there others like this ....... In the past two years I can't remember how many clubs I have bought and gave them a try. For instance, I bought two 3 FW's, a Callaway Big Bertha, and a Adams Speed Line Super S. After trying both them out I decided the Adams FW out performed the Callaway, even though the Callaway was the more expensive of the two clubs so I sold the Callaway and kept the Adams FW. I also can't remember how many drivers I bought only to later sell because I wasn't happy with them. I bought both new and used clubs and have kept only the clubs that seem to work best for me. The same thing goes for balls, I will buy a dozen balls just to try them out and see if I like them. Currently, I plan on keeping the clubs I have however I did just put a bid in on a Adams hybrid that's for sale on ebay simply because, I want to give it a try and see if it will work for me. And if it don't it will be up for sale just like the others that didn't satisfy me..

If you are looking for an opinion (and if not you shouldn't be posting on a discussion forum), I think you need to actually learn how to swing before you break the bank.  It's a fact that you can't buy a game.  That comes only with training and work.  You can get clubs fitted to you, but even that is of minimal assistance if you don't have a modicum of consistency in your swing.

Another thing.  Constantly changing clubs, particularly if they have a different feel, is going to make developing a consistent swing nearly impossible, because it will change to accommodate each club's playing characteristics.  While Club X may seem to work better for you than the slightly different Club Y, that is probably only because it accidentally is fitted to you.  The next one you pick up is going to be different, and if you make a minor swing change to be able to hit the new one, it may result in a new inconsistency in the previous club that was working.  All that will do is make you question whether the previous one was actually right, and it can become an endless loop.

I made that mistake years ago, and I regretted it.  In 1988 I had accidentally found a set of irons that perfectly suited me and my game (MacGregor RPM in manganese bronze), and I was playing decent golf, got down to around a 10 handicap from 18 without really doing much except play.  I had never been fitted - I didn't realize it, but I had just gotten lucky finding those irons.  Trying to move a little lower still, I took a couple of 1/2 hour lessons from my club pro, and then I made the wrong choice for further improvement.  I thought that different clubs would once again get me over that next hump, so I started shopping.  I stupidly sold the old set (I didn't have unlimited funds, and needed to sell one set to be able to afford the next), so for the next 15 years I struggled to play any sort of consistent golf as I migrated from this iron set to that trying to find another set that fit me.  I didn't play badly, exactly, just didn't really improve and never again got my cap quite as low as it was with those MacGregors.

So while the right clubs can help, fit is more important than brand, and just constantly shopping around will usually do more harm than good.  Learning a consistent swing (it doesn't even have to be a great swing - just repeatable) is also as important as proper fit, and they both should be married together.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
