For straight 6 foot putts where are the pressure points suppose to be on the putter grip handle ?

Pressure mostly back hand or the mostly lead hand? or equal both?

Edited by dchoye

I am a right hander using the left hand low grip. My best guess is that my hands are of equal pressure on the club grip. There is nothing special about how I grip my putter other than the left hand low part.

I think I grip all my clubs with equal pressure. Never really ever thought about it.

I would suspect it depends on the grip.

I like to feel like I have the putter handle wedged into the palm of my left hand. I wouldn't say I apply more pressure to the left hand, just that it stabilizes the putter head throughout the stroke. The right hand is just along for the ride.

For all my putts, my left hand grip pressure is higher than my right. I get very good distance control and start direction with that feel. The right hand is a guide. The left hand controls the swing.

Even pressure both hands works for most putts for me . I find that if Im below the hole then I have to make a firm stroke much like Rickie Fowler does and then I feel more pressure on the aft part of the handle so it's mostly the palm of my trail hand .

For straight 6 foot putts I generally play it like firm putt if the green is slow but later on the season when the grew gets faster I will have more equal pressure

    • Day 139: worked on putting for a while. Did the two cups drill for bead.
    • It’s winter here and time hitting at my indoor place.  This year I bought and sold a few sets so I didn’t settle in on anything. For this coming season, starting now I have a choice to make.  What set would you guys use? 1.  Nike Vapor Pro irons - They are like new, hit them some last year before I had to demo other sets.  I love them, original grips, barely used so I’m almost not wanting to use them to keep their value up.  Standard LLL and standard grips. 2. Taylormade P7TW irons - Still in the box.  Got them over a year ago but had too much to hit, never used them.  Have used a set in the past and loved them.  Ended up with my own set custom fit to me -1/4”, 1 degree flat midsize grips.  These are probably not as valuable because they are still available and they are fit to me. I hate to put the Nikes away but it makes more sense to save them than the TW’s…. I dunno….

    • Yes. I believe in using the same ball all of the time, including chipping and putting practice. I use the orange Callaway Supersoft.  Only $25 per dozen, and sometimes on sale for $20.
