I wonder what they talk about? I love golf, but I wonder what really gets done, sounds more like a schmoozefest.

Off topic, but examiner.com, its place in our country, not it's place in our country.

The election season is in full swing, but even politicians running for office or re-election need a respite from making laws and running the country. Once again, the golf world comes to Washington D.C. for National Golf Day, and this year, that is Wednesday, May 18. It's all being organized by We Are Golf, a coalition of golf's top associations and industry partners.

The golf representatives will meet with members of Congress, various federal agencies and parts of the Executive Branch to talk golf and it's place in our country. The last report conducted on golf determined that it's a $70 billion economy, makes a $4 billion annual charitable impact and offers many environmental and fitness benefits. There are 15,200-plus diverse businesses in the country and more being developed each year. 2016 is proving to be a big year for golf, for many reasons.

This is just a standard shmooze to get whatever support they need for various bills.  Essentially saying, "we employ X people and bring in Y dollars, bill XYZ will make it harder/more expensive to do business and if it passes we'll have to ship jobs out of the country."

Lobbying at its finest.  Jon Stewart couldn't find anyone to speak to about the Zadroga Act to fund healthcare for 9/11 responders, but the golf industry has a f***ing "day.

Yeah. I love golf and all, but dedicating a day to one industry seems like a collossal waste. There are so many other problems the country faces.

Exactly.  And to be clear, I think lobbying has its place and all industries have the right to talk to their representatives to make their concerns heard.  But a "national day" for golf just seems out of scale.  I was going to ask if we had a national healthcare day, and apparently we do: http://www.nhdd.org/#welcome  and I missed it.

Now if they could just talk the government into bigger property tax breaks maybe they would stop selling all the courses in my area?

There are "national days" for so many things that this really doesn't bother me, outside of the fact I didn't get the day off to celebrate accordingly by playing golf.

TopGolf was giving free golf lessons today.  How much can be assessed and corrected in 5 minutes? Maybe I'm being a bit too skeptical.

Unknowingly, we played on National Golf Day yesterday.  The event must have slipped by the course we played as I noted nothing different.  Where is my prize??  ;-)
