Hi There,

My company is hosting a golf tournament at a very nice course in California. The group of people we work with are very mixed when it comes to being serious and fun. Some enjoy fun/silly games and other strictly want to play golf. One of the booths on the course will be a trivia booth about our company's history, but I am trying to come up with another booth on the course with a golf related activites.

Anyone have anything that was pretty successful with a mixed crowd?

Thanks!

Food is good around the tenth hole, you could still go with a golf theme:

Pimento cheese sandwich (Augusta tradition), Arnold Palmer the drink (ice tee and lemonade),...

is there a traditional golf alcoholic drink?  Perhaps a Scottish ale.

Good luck with the planning. Whatever you decide to do in your hospitality booths, don't follow the lead of this tournament organizer!

Socal Golf Tournament goes horribly awry

Oh my goodness! Thank you and the course we are on would never allow that! That sounds like something from the 70's!

It's a shotgun start with boxed lunches around 12. :)

I am thinking of making one of the booths a specific drink that would be a good idea. Only problem was last year we did this and the player er...well took advantage of it. I'm thinking maybe a margarita booth or sangria booth?

Try driving a marshmallow for distance.  You can have a prize for men, women, or any other categories you want.

Take a par 3 and make it into a dart board type thing, where the closer they get to the pin the better the prize/drink they can get.

A $10,000 prize on a long par 3 is fairly common (or some other dollar amount).  The company I work for did that, we bought insurance to cover the low possibility that we had a payout.  The cost for the insurance was around two to three hundred dollars best I can recall.

Looong putt! This is a fun one for the individual golfers on each team:

At the turn (9th hole), have a long putt contest on the practice green. Set up a 40-foot sidehill, double breaker. Have closest to the hole prize, plus a special prize if someone sinks it.

    • Which was his second hole, yeah. I talked with Mav's coach/instructor last night, ha ha.
    • Yikes! Colin Morikawa withdraws on 11th tee after the practice swing made his lower back twinge.

    • My flop shots are 6-7° down (AoA). Does that answer it? 😄  The longer answer is… You have to be able to do both shots.
    • I hope you don't mind me raising this one from the dead. I got shortgamechef's video access thing for a few months in 2024. I watched his yip fix videos (the general gist is similar to the first video above, but with a lot more detail) and it made a lot of sense. I was working on it in my backyard off a mat for a while and my yippy thing was mostly gone. Aside from anything else, the flop shot using that technique is so easy and controllable. But I got onto a golf course for the first time of the year and found myself by the green on a downslope with the ball sitting down a little in the rough and I was, not to put too fine a point on it, f***ed. Shallow is all well and good from a good flat lie and I understand it, but you can't make that your be all and end all. I still don't know if it's a good idea to use steep all the time or just when you need to. I have a hard enough time with one technique, let alone too.  Just got a pitching skillest lesson with Erik and unless I misunderstood things some, he wants me a bit steeper. @iacas - where do you fall on the steep vs shallow argument and how do you vary it according to need?
