Spent all evening at Disney Springs with friends from back in Ohio. Still enough time to sneak in 5 minutes of slow mo work. Need to do some stretching on my neck now.

9/20 - before my workout, spent some time in the backyard with a 7 iron working on tempo.  Really focusing on not taking away too fast and keeping a smooth swing from the takeaway until impact.  Also kept the top of the swing more consistent and worked on making sure I do not go too far back in my normal swing

Day 20. This is actually going by fast.

Tweeked my back walking the dog tonight, so just some putting stroke practice. Different length strokes with the quarter drill.

9/21 - more takeaway and tempo swings in the backyard really working on not bringing the club back too fast or too far.  I also spent some time with pitches in the back yard with the 55 and 60 keeping in mind how they come out of the "rough"

Took the day off yesterday and played 36. Shot 102 (50/52) and 94 (49/45). Haven't been practicing much lately, but all-in-all my driver and irons went okay most of the day. Played safe and played the lay-up when necessary, just couldn't score when I got to the green. Kept leaving chips way short, and when I did hit the green on approach, my putting was atrocious... 41 and 39 putts respectively.

I joked a while back about at least having some consistency when I scored seven 5's on the front nine. First round yesterday was similar but not as funny... had 10 doubles for the round. Just couldn't stay away from them. On the other hand, double was the worst score of the round, which is new (gotta love those silver linings).

College night at the boys school, so I couldn't go to the range as I hoped. Went ultra slow tonight with my 7 iron. I'm hoping that all this boring work will make permanent changes.

A few minutes with the wall drill to get feel for a good hip turn. I'm definitely noticing that I have to stay on top of this or I quickly revert back to swaying. Moved into slo-mo backswings with proper stance and "grip" but no club, paying close attention to steady head and hip turn. After a few of these I started incorporating the downswing.

When I go slow, the clubface typically ends up wide-open at impact with the back of my left hand facing up (edit: not straight up, maybe 45 degrees or so). In the past, I've noticed that it's worse when my head moves forward on the downswing and better when I keep my head steady and turn my hips more and earlier.

Have always felt like my left hand cups quite a bit by A4 and with the last few slo-mo sessions, I've noticed that stopping at A4 and correcting to a flat left wrist seems to help in the transition down to the ball and it feels easier to square the club (it just kinda happens) and keep my hands in front of the clubface through impact and extension.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
