Hands up adjustments felt pretty darn good tonight, although the video i'm currently uploading only looks minimal, this is a good start.

I felt like I had soooooooooo much more time and club head speed, and also strangely my pivot felt much more stable.


Dan: Bad camera angle and there's an obstruction right where your right elbow goes on the top of your backswing. I think it's a little bit better though. Hard to say with the angle.

Try to keep your right arm straight on the backswing like Erik talked about.

Can't do much about camera angles, it's the best I can do there, I thought i'd upload just for a preview if anyone was interested.

One thing i'll be working on is keep the head still, I tilt it back and then forward with the downswing.

The ball flight and direction for me was 10 times better last night so i'll be working more on the various bits and getting out on the course this weekend I think under a bit of preassure.

I skimmed the video only, but I really like your first practice swing and the position you've paused in at the top of the backswing (first few seconds - before you step behind the railing). It looks like you adopt your normal swing right away though, which I assume is normal for anyone. I also like that thing you're working on just after the 3-minute mark with your hip slide to the left. Sounds like you have some things to work on insofar as "feelings" and drills are concerned. They may take a few sessions to get a speed though. Good luck!

Yeah, that first practice swing is really what you should be going for. Try to replicate that. Relax a little more. Getting better though for sure.

The camera is way too far to the right. Read this thread over why it's important to position the camera correctly.

You need to exaggerate the backswing stuff more. Feel like the right arm is staying straight the whole time on your backswing.

Also, two of your three priorities require a face-on view in order to check (hips forward, handle forward)

Agree, and I'd wager your left knee, left hip are moving too far the the right.  Going back to what Erik said about feeling pressure into your left foot.  Keep the left knee more centered, not turing it back.  Will help you stay more centered, hit the ball more solid and start getting the weight and hips more forward at impact/followthrough

Guys, can't do much about filming in the range, it was merely a taster to show some feedback.

Main priorities this weekend will include;

  1. Centered pivot
  2. Higher top of swing
  3. Hips
  4. Left foot to be angled slightly

I know my leg movement is poor but I can't work out why! I mean I work hard down the gym on stability, hell more than some "athletes" i've seen with stable lower bodies... :)

Haha, I forgot to use my smilies I still want him to do the weight forward drill, which would eliminate thinking about his hips (both getting forward on the downswing and swaying back on the backswing) for now and would get him to feel what impact is supposed to feel like. At least in theory. But if you don't think that's the best course of action, then I yield.

But with the weight forward drill he can just work on a straighter right arm going back and palmar flexion coming down. It's very possible though that drill is too frustrating to learn by yourself, in which case I understand how much we have to slow the learning process down when helping someone through the internet.

Looks good. You're hitting some pulls at the start there then seem to find a groove. Not there yet (are any of us, really?) but it sure looks like you're not shying away from hard work. Ball flight on the good swings is pretty consistent, especially so considering all the things you're working on. Persinally I think that's pretty important since you're still playing rounds.

The following is purely guesswork based on where [I think] my shots would be missing with your plane and path.  With a very flat swing, ball position is even more important since the face travels on the target line (assuming you're not trying to work the ball like Bubba) for a shorter distance. Ballo too far ahead and you really have to reach for the ball and the tendency is to come across it.

The camera angle is what it is, but it's in real time at normal speed so there's a few things to see. The ball is really zipping out there on a few shots based on how long you're waiting for them to land, and your gaze seems to be pretty much straight away. Considering how many things you have on your to do list, that swing at ~2:55 is gold. Do more of that and you're laughing!!

I've been Playing Golf for: 3-4 years

My current handicap index or average score is: 13

My typical ball flight is: push/cut/slice/fade :)

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: high balloon cut

Im trying to keep more centered over the ball and more 40-50 to help get my weight shifted...im struggling to get the hips and tilt in though which is frustrating as it steepens everything.

    • I am not sure that's the announcers - that's more the producers. It's like the "oh and we're going to cut over to Joe Schmoe here who has a 90 foot putt for eagle on 7. He's +12 for the tournament, let's see what happens", gee I wonder. But they do cut around and show the putts that go in or the shots that go close.  One of my favorite announcers is Ken Brown. He played to a high standard and he's quite engaging too. Good combination. He is always talking about how difficult a shot the guy is about to play is. Player has a chip over a ridge and he'll say something along the lines of "this is such a difficult shot - if he can get this within 15 feet of the hole he's doing very well". Then they chip it to a foot and he starts gushing. That's almost the opposite. But it does add some excitement, especially if you don't know how hard the shot is, which, let's face it, is pretty tough to tell on television.  There are though definitely some (Miller was pretty "good" at this) who will create unreasonable expectations. Like "he'll be pretty upset if he doesn't get this inside 10 feet" from 100 yards away. On a somewhat separate note, that's why I always quite enjoyed it when they showed every shot Tiger hit. Gave you a much better idea of how the game is actually played. You could watch him some days and he'd do literally nothing spectacular all day, but you add it up and he's shot 67 and you question how he did it. Well, he did it by hitting almost all the greens, making birdies on the par 5s and holing a couple of 8 foot putts on the better approach shots.
    • It's not Scottie's fault the announcers keep saying that about him, that seems like a silly reason to root for someone else IMO.    I think announcers have at least somewhat of a role in giving amateur golfers unrealistic expectations for what a good shot is. They act like PGA Tour players should make every 8 foot putt and hit it inside 5 feet from 100yds when in reality they only make just over 50% of their 8 footers and tour average from 100yds is around 20 feet.

    • I used to find commentators really obnoxious like this, then I watched one of the online streams of the Masters (I think it was amen corner) that had someone commentating on it, but they were literally just stating the name of the player about to hit and their score and other drab stuff. It was so bland I couldn't watch it. Worse than nothing, but I did want to know some of the stuff they were talking about, which is something of a catch-22. I did realize that the commentary team have a pretty rough time of it and do a hard job and some of them do it better than you might realize. 
    • Okay, this is my opinion. But you really should consider getting data. No offense but human memory can be odd. Sometimes we make a long putt early on with our new putter and from that first impression onward you have a "putter that's good for long putts." We may miss our first two short ones and now you have "A putter that doesn't work for short putts". Sometimes these things even out over time, sometimes they don't, but it's often tough to break our first impressions of what's happening.  Plus, let's say that in fact it is true. You putt better from long distance with a broomstick and better from close up with a standard putter. Which one holds more weight? Here's an example. If your short putting is -5 SG (Strokes Gained) and your long putting is +5 SG does that mean your over all putting is 0 SG? What if your overall putting with one putter is -2 SG and +2 SG with the other putter? The answer to which putter should you use is of course is "It depends". BUT.... If you had SG (strokes gained) data for both putters you would know right away which putter is better for you. Or at least you'd have a better idea. This still doesn't take into account the difficulty of where you are playing, and/or the particular days in which you play. We've all had those putting days where it "feels" like everything you hit rolls in. AND... we've all had those days where it "feels" like you can't make a thing.  My best advice is get putting lessons. ... My second best advice is get data.  Unless you just want to get a new putter. Than go ahead. I love shiny things and I'd be the last person to claim I have never replaced a club that was working fine just because I wanted to get a new one.
