I have some videos of practice from a few days ago and noticed that on my new swing, I have been doing something that I have not done before.  I also noticed it while watching Jordan Speith swing his irons this year.  In the video, you can see that it seems like he moves his weight and hands slightly forward before the takeaway.  I am not sure why I started doing this but it seems to help me with rotation and spine tilt.  I dont think I have seen anyone else do this on the tour.  What are everyones thoughts around this?

I will post my swing when I get a chance, I am going on a 3 day golf trip this weekend.

I do the same thing as well, not just with irons but with all my clubs minus putter. It's always recommended to do a slight move forward to begin the takeway...at least that's how I was taught

I was not taught that at all during my last lesson this year.  I actually do the opposite with my driver.  I tend to move my hands and weight very slightly back before the takeaway.

It's typically good when you come about something that an elite ball striker has. Stenson does (or did) something similar, and a few others but I can't remember.

A rough estimate: It seems like they are sort of anchoring their hands to be ahead of the shaft/ball - perhaps for them it encourages inline impact on the down swing.

Well, it seems like it isn't incorrect which makes me feel a lot better about it

I will have to watch that video when I have some time to devote to it

it can be considered another "trigger". Probably works for some, may not matter for others.

A means of going from relatively static to starting the swing.

to me, a "trigger" is some small action you take in anticipation of initiating a motion. Its sort of a prelude, or mental rehearsal. It might take form in the "waggle", a certain "pause" at the top, a "hip shift" just prior to reaching the top of your swing. In short - a pre-cursor". I am sure the instructors could offer a more definitive explanation or better examples. and yes, in the post immediately above is a good explanation.

A lot of great players start with some kind of "trigger" move, either a little forward press, a pressure shift or right knee "kick" towards the target, especially the "classic" swings. Even Tiger had a slight forward press to start the swing.

Thanks for the videos and information!!  I think maybe it is just something that my body does to have a place to start whether its good for me or bad for me.  I noticed when swinging around the backyard that I do not have a better swing if I am thinking about it and it becomes forced but when I just swing, it is a bit more natural

Years ago, well more like decades, it was called a forward press.  If you search for it there are a number if threads that discuss it.
