I've been Playing Golf for: 4 Yrs
My current handicap index or average score is: 25.2 (90s)
My typical ball flight is: Fade
The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Scared of pull hooks, which is why  I settle for a tendency to fade.

Could really do with some thorough examination of my swing. It's mediocre. 9/10 I fade and I can only generate about 210-220 meters. Love to get in the 250+ and to draw the ball.

Cheers!

Hey man,

There are far more qualified heads in here to give feedback,  but for my two cents you look a little over the top in the downswing. Mine is quite similar,  and I have been working on the 'motorcycle revving' action with the left wrist to try to drop the club a little lower at the start of my downswing.

Also, I noticed that your shoulder rotation might be stopping a little early (screenshot showing point where your body stops turning)... possibly at the expense of some power?

Thanks!

It's almost like a 3/4 swing. I'm not reaching the top of my back swing, or pausing at the top - scared to really take the club back, then I snatch or "cast" the down swing a little which gives it the over the top (out to in) swing path.

I think when I slow it down a little on the back swing and try an load my hips up a little more, and also when I tee it up slightly higher I feel I start to get that "right-wrist roll) which closes the club back on impact (bringing ti back to square rather than open), and results in a straight drive rather than fade. When I'm playing well, and as I relax more. that tends to happen. This swing however is my "safe" or "natural" swing which is what I immediately revert to under pressure.

I've charted my overall progress here.

Hey, i know its gonna sound ridiculously simple, but i have a cure that will help almost every slicer, without ever touching your swing. Here we go, simply move the ball further away from you, set up as normal, then move ball out about a club head length, now when you swing you will be able to extend when you get to impact, you can also move it up even just left of your left foot, this will train you to shift your weight better to the left. if you wanna hit it the ball far and straight, you have to extend your arms through impact, if it's too close to you, then you can't extend at the proper point, which is why we extend early, at the top, now in order to get the club back to the ball we have to get our body out of the way, so we stand up, in a last ditch attempt to hit the ball we fall backwards. I know this is gonna seem much too simple a fix but i promise you it will work, i have shown quite a few people and it has turned their games around, you will soon be able to draw the ball too! This also works the same with irons. I prefer to move the ball forward as well as out because it really helps me shift forward better, just remember not to open your shoulders, you can even start with club in its normal position and have ball up a few inches. This tip will help develop a flatter in to out swing. Give it a shot guys and let me know what you think. You have nothing to lose and I'm not trying to get you to change anything in your swing.

It certainly worth a shot. A related to a lot of the issues raised, I definitely "fall back"  a lot due to no room to release the club head.

I went out and played 18 and trialed teeing up a club head length behind the ball and it worked. I felt I could really hit through the ball as I was able to release the club at the bottom of my swing more comfortably and a result was closing the club face at impact. Still hit a couple of fades but there were a lot more straight ones in there and "gasp" a draw.

Your camera angle is off to the side so giving you much analysis is risky because of parallax error. I recommend that you read this article and then post your swing again and we can give you some advice. I see something to work on, but because of the camera angle I can't be sure.

You've posted that in several threads, and it's been debated in many of them.

That is not a valid suggestion; not to the point you can just paste it anywhere someone mentions that they slice the ball.

It has some merit but yeah, each player has unique swing issues can arise at many stages of the swing. Perhaps the member is genuine in believing that method can reduce slice.
Fact is most people know why they are slicing, if it was a matter of a quick fix we would all be smashing it 300 yards down the guts.

Yeah I haven't gotten around to filming another swing, it's tricky to get it on plane - I did read your notes. Thanks for the advice.

Love the site! Great insight into the golf scene near you, and get a good feel about where you stand with golf. Nice photos too. You remind me a bit of @Fairway_CY in your passion for documenting your golf journey in a blog. His blog is here:

Just a thought, but the blog feature here on TST gets decent readership from golf-minded people (like the one I linked you to above). If you get tired of the wordpress format for your blog, you can easily shift over to here. The good thing about these blogs is that your readers are guaranteed pretty much to be golf enthusiasts. We're mostly a friendly lot, and you'd likely have quite a few people responding. Anyway, here's the launching point for blogs (found under Browse/Blogs above:

    • Sure, but how was your alignment? 🙂 Day 53 - 2024-11-22 Mirror work after getting back home. Wife is a superstar for her career/job/whatever.
    • I would say your back nine is the second nine you play that day. It's part of what makes getting some of those holes tougher. Or, if 18 holes are played pretty often, out of A, B, and C, and you often play A and C, A is the front and C is the back, regardless of the order you play them in. That way not birdieing C #7 isn't overcome by birdieing the easier A #7 on a day you played it C-A instead of A-C. But, at the end of the day, nobody really cares except yourself.
    • Day 128: played 9. Nice little even 9, with 2 birdies and 2 bogeys.
    • @DeadMan, I think your approach makes sense. As @dennyjones said, consistency is the key.
