I started developing a weird backswing sensation...

At the top of my backswing, i can feel the entire weight of the club resting on my thumb. By the end of the session or round, my right thumb will be insanely sore from using it's muscle. I thought the weight of the club is suppose to sit in the V between the pointing finger and thumb, but i feel the entire weight on the thumb alone.

To combat this, i noticed i would unconsciously open my thumb V during the downswing to "hold on to the club properly" so that it doesnt feel loose.

Another thing i noticed is at impact, my right thumb pushes the club through the ball... (i'm thinking these 2 things are related and i am keeping the face open at impact)

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on what is going on? I can't figure out the right sensation anymore at the top of the backswing.

It's hard to tell without a picture of your grip or swing. But I don't actively think about my right thumb at all. I make sure my right hand sits properly on top of my left thumb. The weight of the club really sits on my left thumb at the top of the backswing. Check out the thread below.

I've also read that some Pros would do practice swings with the right thumb and index finger off the grip.

Remove the right thumb and index finger for practice swings, Ben Hogan advocated this in his five lessons book.

You will notice that my set is heavy on the super game improvement kit, I am still awaiting the super game improvement that was promised.

I think you're probably loosening the left and even the right fingers to put more pressure on the thumb.

While there is a little more pressure in your right thumb at the top for a righty, it should not be so much that you get tired from it. Not even close.

Yeah, that sounds a little off. If anything I feel the weight of the club more on my left thumb (RH golfer) than my right. And I never come home with sore left thumb!
