Not really braces, more like a copper infused ACE Bandage. Has anyone here tried the copper fit advertised on TV? Supposedly will help with joint pain, tennis elbow, and in general a lot of sports. I have soreness in my left arm (excessive practice swings into a mat), and some pain on left side in that I feel it when stepping out of the automobile. They are somewhat reasonably priced at around twenty dollars and I am thinking about getting one of each. Even if only a placebo, shouldn't hurt. Also, would there be any prohibitions in using a device such as these in play? (not that I would care in casual play).

Very thin, light, and stretchy.  May help some.  They don't really add stability.  How would this be different than taping your fingers joints in playing?

I wear compression wraps on both knees from time to time for joint support. No copper in them. The compression these wraps provide seem to do the trick for me. I don't wear them constantly either.

As I understand it, the copper feature is sold as an important body nutrient. Although I agree with this, I also believe nutrients need to be ingested by mouth. I am not sure copper can be soaked into the skin nuetritional value. The other selling feature of copper infused products are that they are easy on the skin, and control skin irritations, including fungus. How long would youhave wear a wrap for it to develope fungus?

Now, I also belive that any copper infused product is safe to use. No negative effects, unless the user has a specific allergy to copper.  That,or the user's skin starts turning green where the copper touches the skin. When I was a kid we would make rings out of copper pipe, and after a while we would get a green stain on our skin where we wore the ring.

My best guess is give the product a try, and if it works for you, thats a good thing.

@Patch I guess what I was getting to was the parallel to these and the copper bracelets or pendants in other threads, the ones with balls on the ends. I always thought this was more hype and placebo, but never really read where somebody with a medical background chimed in. I see the benefit of the compression, but the copper?  My left arm is sore in the forearm just below the elbow, but I also feel it right at the elbow between tricep and bicep and is muscular.  I am assuming from impact. Maybe something like an analgesic such as Salon Pass would be better

Perhaps a wrap and the analgesic together would be a good way to go. My fingers on my hands get sore after a long practice session, or play. Luckily they dont stay sore very long.

Something else I do is hold on to a frosted mug of beer, switching hands every so often. Obviously the location of your injury would make this therapy tough to do. . 16 ounce curls might be an option for medicinal reasons. :-P

I wear the knee wraps when my tendon/ligaments get sore, and I lose the stability in joints. Just aged, normal wear and tear stuff. I usually wear them for a couple of days off and on. Maybe once or twice a month.

hmmm, that has merit, or my new favorite bev....Margarita Rocks. 'cept it would take a lot more reps owing to the lighter weight.

Have you ever been around hockey equipment? :-)

Trust me… if you sweat into things and they're not regular articles of clothing that you wash regularly, they can develop a funk pretty darn quick…

Obviously if you don't clean things, little critters will grow there. In fact my wife told me a story about a patient treated for an itchy scalp. He was homeless and went to the free clinic. He's been wearing a  stocking cap on his head. Due to sweating, and poor hygene, he had developed yeast infection on his scalp. Most folks with toe nail fungus wear dirty shoes, and/or socks.  I know what you are saying.

The copper aspect is a placebo and does nothing. But a wrap for practice will help because compression can stabilize the muscles and tendons during impact. At times I will develop soreness from range mats and wear the wrap during practice. Icing the sore area after practice helps as well. I try to minimize NSAIDs because overuse can damage the kidneys.

There are no prohibitions during play. You will often see a Pro player with a small wrap around the forearm just below the elbow. That is the golfer's elbow band.

that's kind if what I thought. Like I said, can't hurt. Thanks

I do think the copper helps with antibacterial properties. It's why doorknobs are made of brass.

  • 1 month later...

Hey all! It's been awhile. Last summer I threw out my back helping someone move. After a half dozen chiropractor sessions, I was back on the course taking half swings and then finally making full swings and feeling pretty good by Autumn. The lower back always felt a little sore after a full round and occasionally during. I'm not looking for a ton of back support, obviously i need flexibility there, and I was looking at the copper fit back strap and seeing reviews that some people are using it golfing and they like the feel. Just checking to see if anyone's using one. I figured if it truly helped, we'd see people like Jason, Tiger, or Rory wearing one. Pro's who have constant back issues.

I believe I addressed this recently, but can't find the thread. (did not really look that hard). From what I recall, the responses were limited, and some were of the opinion that it was more or less a placebo at least as far as the copper infusion went. My concern at the time was not my back, but more related to elbow and knees. The copper fit devices for those are even being sold at Dick's.

Other than that, I am a believer in Glucosamine and Chondroitin/MSM supplements, available at your local drug store, Walgreens, Walmart, Rite Aid, CVS. As far as a back brace, you could probably get an inexpensive one like used in warehouse receiving docks.

Then of course, there is always Jack and Water.

I have one of the Copper Fit compression sleeve for my knee. I put on an Icy Hot patch and then the sleeve. Really helps stabilize my knee though not as well as a mor bulky brace. Hand wash the sleeve periodically per instructions. I also have a stretch neoprene brace for my back with hook and loop Velcro closures. Nice supports in the back. Surprisingly comfortable even when swinging a club. Got the Copper Fit at WalMart and the brace at Academy. -Marv

The best thing I have found for joint pain is taking a joint supplement, msm glucosamine chondrotin , every day. Make a huge difference in my knee and hip. My Dr. and orthopedic surgeon agree. For muscle pain rest and flexibility exercises. Regular work outs in the gym generally avoids muscle injuries .....for me

ditto...as I mentioned above.  I used to have chronic muscle spasms that left me practically paralyzed. Doctors, therapy, hospital, nothing worked. I was diagnosed with arthritis in the back at the time. I started taking the supplements and for past several years now, I have been 100% pain free and do not even have to take them anymore, although it certainly would not hurt to continue.

    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
