Hi all, couldn't find anything that specifically addresses this anywhere, if it's already addressed I apologize.

I practice a lot in my garage, year round, hitting into a net. I use a country club elite golf mat, and Rukket SPDR net. I have a fairly good idea of what is/isn't good contact, etc, but am curious about ball flight.

Currently I'm working on hitting a cut shot, to address an in to out swing that causes lots of pull hooks, etc. I'm curious if there's a way to know based on how the ball returns to me, what the spin/ball-flight of my shot was. Unfortunately I can't afford a simulator at this moment to see this (had the SkyTrak and it was AMAZING, but had to return and wait for another day to buy), so relying on feedback.

I know it's not 100% reliable, but there has to be a way to interpret the spin based on the shot to some extent (I would like to think).

Thanks in advance for chiming in.

Dunno for sure. The Net Return claims that their net's feature of ball return should tell you, but you need to get input from an actual user.

Incorporate a camera.   You can then review the swing and critique it.

I would think the answer is no.

not the same thing, but I have set up a "diamond" in the back yard with alignment rods on either side and practice pitches and chips from about 45 feet and try to practice shot shaping. It works to a small extent, but really can not get enough spin on the ball for a realistic feedback, but at least I can see enough to get an idea.

No - not really.  I hit into a net a ton.  I have the Net Return which is supposed to give you an indication by returning the ball to the left if you spun it to the right . .and vice versa.  Eh . . kinda not really.  Sometimes it returns the way it's supposed to and sometimes not . .and even then you can't tell how much you cut it.  I can kind of tell some things from the way the ball spins on my garage floor after leaving the net . .but nothing very specific.

What I do is practice in the garage and then go for check-ups to the range.  When I was last working on left/right ball flight . .I was going doing short daily practice sessions in the garage and then going to the range twice a week.

Other mat and net tricks I like to do - put masking tape on the clubface . .affix targets to or behind the net . . .put tape down on the mat in various places to see if you hit it or not . . use obstacles like plastic bottles, etc . .and, of course, the video camera.  At times the video camera and a program like Huddle Technique are key.

Good luck!

haha..during the summertime, a housefly will land on the vinyl target suspended in front of the net. They always seem to return to exactly the same spot on the vinyl after you hit it. I tried to hit them with a pitch shot. Never squashed one, but did manage one day to clip a wing! (5 IRON).

I've been wondering a similar thing.  I started hitting into a net this week using a marker to show where on the clubface I'm striking the ball.  We all know what a toe strike or hosel rocket does, but I'm wary of what a center ball strike will could do without seeing the flight and ingraining bad practices.

Just masking tape?  Does a club mark the tape much if you hit it?  I understand video analysis would be best, I just need to figure out the best solution for that since my phone has minimal storage left and I'm estimating a minute's worth of video will eat that up.

I have a hard time getting masking tape to stick to a mat, better to use a strike board. (without a ball)
