Yup, Yankee ingenuity and adaptability combined with a blood alcohol level of 0.5%. :-D

Now, imagine if you were drunk and doing this? Going 2 full holes backwards at near full speed then near a hazard? :-D

Hate the damn geofence.

They just installed gps on the carts at one of our 2 courses.  The first time it shut me down ON THE CART PATH next to the tee box because it "thought" we were driving too close to the tee box.  The second time, we we off the fairway headed towards an errant shot and it shut down when I had a tree right behind me.  Now I can't go forward, can't back up.  :pound:

I had to push a cart with my son at the wheel when he was about 13 years old to get it back into an area that it recognized as "good to go". Basically, we had to shut off the cart so the electric brakes were not engaged, then push really hard uphill.

Yeah, not a very good system. I can only imagine a self driving vehicle based upon GPS with that kind of "accuracy". Just picture an entire golf course full of patrons sitting waist deep in water or sand or whatever. . . :-D

I've never seen any fence issues. Typically it's pretty open unless it's path only holes or within 30 yards of the green. With modern courses being built into housing developments my guess is there will be autonomous carts soon. Those courses here already have a track like cart paths. A good portion of the courses aren't grass and some holes are several hundred yards apart. Carts are mandatory.

Or people can just walk to speed up rounds. Like REAL golfers do B-)

It was funny that two weekends ago, my son and I were walking and we were waved up past another party. They quipped that there was a good reason that they needed carts, when I mentioned that we were walking after being asked if we wanted to pass them up? I returned that that's the same reason I should be driving a cart. I happened to get a GIR/par on that particular hole, but still shot a 92 in the end. :-D Never bumped into them again, but then we caught up with another party where this one player literally took 1 minute over the ball before swinging. That is, after his four or five practice swings. Guessing we hit into them more than once since we couldn't see over these huge bumps on the course. :-P

So, carts could have come in handy for us to scout out the bumps before teeing off, and have some place to sit while we waited. . . instead, we walked. . .

Yeah, some people should use carts for sure. Including me :-X

I have been an IT consultant for 44 years and I will never ride in any autonomous computer driven vehicle that is not on tracks, monorail, or something similar whether it is a golf cart, automobile, truck, or bus.  Yes Virginia, computers do fail, whether it is hardware or a software bug.  I have experienced it many times.

If you drove forward to get there, you can drive backward to get out. :-)

Pros with GPS golf carts should remember that GPS isn't accurate among trees and even in open spaces is only to within five to ten feet.
