Hey guys,

Wanted to get some opinions...

I have been playing Titleist 704 forged cb's for about 16 years now and I am wanting to finally upgrade.

Would you all recommend getting the older 714 or the new 716 AP2 or even the AP1's...

Just wanting to get some opinions since I have been hitting forged I thought maybe I would like the AP2's better.  I have hit both and they both feel great.  I am buying used if that makes a difference in anyones opinion.

Thanks for the help!

I think the best advice is going to be… go get a fitting and see what you like.

That said, the 714s are probably not too different, and yet probably quite a good bit less expensive.

I have the 714s and so does @Valleygolfer. They are very nice. But I agree Erik about the fitting if you can swing that.

I think the price difference will be around $100 I may spend the extra and get the 716's

New is always fun but you can't go wrong with the 714's. Seems odd that you getting them for only $100 less than the 716's. Maybe that's the story you are giving your wife...:-P

I use the 714 AP2's. 712 AP1 for the 4 & 5 irons.  I have no ideas about changing from them until i wear out the short irons. And even then i may just buy another set of 714's. I actually found the 716 model more difficult to hit than any of the other model of that club.

I have used 712 and currently use 714. Get fitted as the fitted shaft will play a huge factor in the results. Also if you are between two shafts, go lighter. Your ego will not get you through 16,17 and 18.

I may actually go with the AP2 set and get AP1 for my 4 & 5 down the road if I seem to have trouble hitting them.

You probably wont. The AP2 long irons are real easy to hit. I use the AP1 for the different launch rather than forgiveness.

AP2 718

Pro tip..  Iron sets are to be purchased on 2 separate credit cards.   The wife is less likely to look there than the checking account.  and, you use two separate credit cards so that if she only notices one of the charges, she'll only think you spent $500, rather than a grand.
