I've acquired a set of TaylorMade RSi 1 and the 5 iron is the same loft as my Adams XTD-ti hybrid 23°

Without having access to a launch monitor what difference in distance would these achieve, obviously the launch angle and flight will differ

And is there any advantages to having 2 clubs of the same loft?

Depends how you hit each club, some people cant hit hybrids very well. Typically it seems people tend to hit hybrids farther than irons of the same loft, by how much is kind of a person to person thing. Best bet would be to just go someplace and hit them side by side.

One thing to consider is shaft length. In stock shafts, the RSi1 5i has 38.25", the XTD Ti 23* has a 39.5". So from a length standpoint, the hybrid should carry farther as it will give you a longer swing arc, probably 10-15 yards distance difference.

But that doesn't take into account shaft weight. Assuming stock shafts:

RSi1 has...

* REAX Steel / 90 gr. R and 95 gr. S / Mid-Hi launch, or
* REAX Graphite / 87 gr. R and 90 gr. S / Hi launch.

STD Ti has Matrix Ozik Red Tie HQ3 // 87 gr. R and 90 gr. S // both midlaunch.

Given the tendency to have lighter shafts in longer clubs, the hybrid shaft is fairly heavy compared to the iron shaft.

So for swinging, you may find the RSi1 good but the STD too heavy, or, the RSi1 too light and the STD good.

Let us know how things test out.

The difference in distance will be a little different for everyone...there are a lot of variables involved, so it's difficult to say. Typically, due to the difference in the design of the heads and shaft length and weight, a hybrid will hit the ball longer than an iron of the same loft.

Some guys think having 2 clubs with the same loft would be a disadvantage, but this isn't necessarily true.  At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter what the lofts are, as long as your distance gaps are correct.  Two clubs with the same loft and a 12-15 yd difference is better than two clubs that are 3* apart but go the same distance!

You will probably need to re-chart all of your yardages anyway...the RSi1 irons have pretty strong lofts and long shafts compared to most other iron sets, so there is a good chance you will hit them a little longer than your previous clubs.  If the 5 iron and hybrid don't have enough of a distance gap, you could have the 5 iron bent a little weaker (about 1*) which might give you 3-4 more yards of separation.

Hybrid is a lighter, longer club with a club head designed for more ball speed. I would say 1-1.5 gap distances. So probably 10 -15 yards.

Not the same company, but I have a similar situation. My 4h is 22° and So is my 4i. My 4h and 4i have the exact same shaft. But since my 4h is 1/2" longer than standard. It's 3/4" longer than my 4-iron and I get about a 1-1.5 club difference as stated above.

Lofts are similar, but the length of clubs are different and the COG is different.

Besides the mentioned difference in distance ( especially carried distance ), the trajectory would be quite differ from each other if the golfer has a decent swing speed.

I would say, go hit them both, then make your verdict for yourself.  Because what others experienced might not applied to you.    Slower swing speed will produce similar results.

    • 12 July 25 - Got invited to a Sat morning round with some friends.  Was a decent round - sort of a pre-tournament round for the 1st of Aug.  Best play of the day - lost ball off the tee on 7.  Took the drop, hit 3rd onto the green, missed the par putt by 3 inches short - middle of cup.  Was a good bogie recovery.  Learned a valuable lesson - the wedge is your friend, the collars on the greens are just long enough that they kill the putter (unless you hammer it).  Back to more of those nice chip and roll drills. &nbsp
    • Day 357: played 27 holes. +6 total - pretty pleased. Only negative was missing the hole 3 times from within 4 feet…
    • Day 1: 7/12/25 exactly 60 minutes of chipping practice. Unlikely to be able to practice very much but sure had a blast today!
    • Didn't score better, but made better swings on the course today. I found a bit of success on range pre-round, just hitting like what felt like 60-70% shots. It was more right elbow and right wrist angles in the downswing. Driver took a bit to work out the giant toe push draws I was hitting.
    • Played in the first round of Shawnee Hills  course tournament. went 42+46. Just lost energy on the back nine.  Lots of pars and way too many big scores. Course has a lot of areas to lose a golf ball. This is the adjusted score.  I had to return to the tee twice. The first the guy I played with didn’t tell me my ball bounced into the trees behind the green. 😡 the 2nd one I hit a decent draw over the corner of a slight dog leg left. I didn’t know 15-20 yards from the fairways was nasty weeds. I also 4 putted and 3 putted a few times. I flubbed like two chips. Too long of backswing.  I was happy with my ball striking. Probably B-. Found a bit of something on the range before the round. I’m starting to actually feel my right arm position better with what I am working on. I striped some irons today.
