I dunno if Mr Hogan would have approved of clubheads with his name on them being forged in China.

That is all.  For Christo they are perfect!

I never like the look of their Fort Worth irons. The PTx irons are OK looking.

Club designer Tom Wishon has some comments on this in one of his older columns. Wishon relates a story of a U.S. foundry botching the test dies for someone's set of irons. An Asian firm stepped in and did a better job, and got the contract. Can't remember the details. Jack, if you have time, see if you can research this and tell us the story.

I suspect he'd care more than they're forged correctly and well than where they are forged.

About the number 13 or 14 paragraph down.  Forged in China!

The guy behind the project was a marketing guy not a club guy.  They are NOT grain flow forged like this in a facility dedicated to Mizuno golf.

I wouldn't buy marketing festival Chinese knock off wanna be Hogan stuff where the CEO is a marketer.  If I was a Hogan guy I'd find real Hogans or maybe older Macs.  Christo loves his marketing though lol.

IMO You can get great irons for a song if you are into it.

I have cast Pings and Mizuno forged and older Wilson Staff,  all are nice.

And finally the ring test...

I had the same thought.  Forged irons that can't be adjusted for lie?

My thought exactly! Was in Wally World the other day and happened to wend my way through the men's department when I spotted the famous Ben Hogan logo. They were promoting a couple racks of golf shorts. Moisture wicking fabric, very stylish, and seemingly well made!

Didn't know the Hogan company was still selling clubs.

Very well made.  I owned a pair of Nike golf shorts a while back (when I was a bit heavier) and those were great, but other than that I went with either non-golf shorts or Kohl's golf shorts since I began being comfortable wearing shorts at the course.  I also got myself a pair of iZod shorts on my 30th birthday.  Anyway, I picked up a pair of the Hogan ones at a Wal-Mart last summer, wore them the next day in 110 degree weather, decided I liked them so much I went back to get more.  They're now my favorite shorts.  I wore a pair today to play and will wear a pair tomorrow to play.  Even though I like the appearance in the iZod ones a bit better, the Hogan ones are the most comfortable shorts I own in any shorts weather.  My dad, who doesn't even play golf, has a pair or two that he likes too.

I promise that was not a paid announcement in any way shape or form.

It was announced yesterday (Aug 10) that Hogan is back in business and will sell it's clubs factory direct.  They will only be available through their website.  I'm not sure how custom fittings will be done, or anything like that, but the concept is to offer premium clubs for less than retail prices.

One example I saw was the Ft. Worth irons will sell for $665/7 clubs. Wedges are $95.

That's exactly what I did! I went back to try on a couple pair, since everybody sizes clothing differently. I bought a bunch of moisture wicking stuff at Kohl's last year. Shorts in a 34 waist. Changed my diet in the meantime, and dropped some weight. Now 170 on a 5'9" frame. Have to cinch the belt up another notch which leads to waistband pucker that I absolutely hate!

Turns out I can now wear a 32. Comfortably! Like I said before, these Hogan shorts are well made, stylish, and in a nice selection of colors and patterns. At 16 bucks and change per, how can you beat that? But I keep going back to see if they'll go on clearance. It's the time of year for them to do so!

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
