I feel like I've developed a AoA that is a little too steep. The divots I'm taking with my irons are way to deep in my opinion. Will a high swing speed and steep angle of attack cause a high ball flight? I always figured a steeper swing would create a lower ball flight.

It's becoming a problem because I feel myself coming in way to steep with my driver and my spin rates have shot up. I'm getting a lot of high hits on the club face. It also seems like I'm having more trouble getting the ball to draw, but I'm not sure if this is related. Any drills I could work on to shallow out the club face?

Thanks,

Josh

Steep with clean contact may translate to more spin robbing you of distance. It all depends on several factors.

Move slightly further away from ball at address

Think of the downswing as a "U" shape rather than a "V" shape.

That's the simple stuff, assuming you are moving your weight and hips correctly and your sequencing on the downswing is correct.

I recently had issues with a steep AoA with my driver as well which was keeping the ball flight too low. I moved the ball more forward in my stance so the ball is between my front heel and my big toe. I also tilted my shoulders slightly upward at address, so my front shoulder is slightly higher than my back shoulder. Those two things helped me get (what feels like) a positive AoA where I am hitting up on the ball instead of down. I havent been on a launch monitor since I made these adjustments so I dont know for sure if my AoA really is upwards or not, but it feels like it is.

Also, check the height that you tee the ball, especially for your driver. I found that mine was teed up too high, so the top of the clubface was hitting the bottom of the ball. I lowered mine so at address about 1/3 to 1/2 of the ball is sticking up above the clubhead, and that has helped me make much more consistent centered contact on the clubface.

It could increase soon which would cause the ball to ascend sharply to its apex. Which could be higher than if you had a shallow angle of attack.

A shallow to steep move tends to cause an inward path at impact, hence the trouble hitting a draw.

I see you have a my swing thread. I would post a video of your driver swing from DTL.

ive been told that teeing it higher encourages a more sweeping action into the ball.

I'm going to recommend a training aid and no I don't make any money off it. It's called the slice eliminator and it shallows out your swing path. I have had one for years. The're about $30 bucks and well worth it. Give it a try.
