Recently I've started fading basically everything. It seems like everything I try might fix it for a day and then it comes right back. I know some people would say no big deal but it's causing a two way miss. I'll set up for a fade and then randomly hit a draw. I don't really understand what's going on.

When I make the swing I feel like the ball is going to turn left and then it ends up falling right. It seems it gets worse as the clubs get longer, almost like I'm not getting the club face square.  I can feel the toe lagging behind sometimes. I was playing some great golf until this started happening. The ball flight is usually straight down my line or a slight push right. I can get the ball to turn over but I feel like I'm hitting a hook almost. The iron in the video is a 4 iron

I looked sorry can't help.  Try a my swing thread in member swings.

I'll post there also, I have a tournament tomorrow so I figured this would be the best place for the quickest response. Thank you!

You have a tournament tomorrow.  All you can do is dance with who ya brung.  Don't try to fight it.  Simply accept what you have and make the best of it you can.

After the tournament will be the time to work out issues you may or may not have.

Good luck, and let us know how you do.

Can't comment on your particular swing but super softening left arm and hand always makes it easier to turn club face over.

I hope your tournament went well. I'm sorry to hear you're struggling with a fade. It must be awful to have the ball go 5yds right of your target. How humiliating. I guess it makes my 90 degree shank into the water seem like nothing at all. Or the 20yd shank that struck the shaft right at the hosel with such deadly accuracy that it sputtered straight ahead to the next tee box. Yeah, those fades can be devastating. My condolences.

This is one of the easiest things in the world to fix.

You gain no depth, so your hands are already "out" and try as much as they can to swing out, but have to eventually take everything left.

Gain more depth with your hands.

And @lawsonjc, this is what Member Swings topics are for, please.

My apologies for not posting in the right place. This does make complete sense though because i used to struggle with getting stuck. I guess i overcompensated when i started to work on correcting this. Should I just get the feeling that im getting a deeper turn and the hands farther behind the body?

I am not an instructor but ill tell you when I fade, if it is not my grip is my lack of better turn,

Yes make a bigger turn. As long as you keep your elbows somewhat in front of your upper body and start the swing with your legs clear the hips propertly and keep your posture, it should work. If you still get stuck you are either dropping your arms behind you or you just out of sync. Or flat out not releasing.

Cheers

I don't think that's the problem here.

@iacas, I saw one of your videos about "depth" somewhere. I can't say I tried it.

When I make a bigger turn it helps me to come a little more from the inside.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
