Over the past couple of years, I have a new favorite brewery.  If you're ever in Charlton Mass, head over to Tree House Brewery.  Their beers are as good as any and their complex is top notch.  I think they have 6 beers rated in the Top 25 of Beer Advocates  Top 150 beer list.

I stop here when I go visit my kids in Maine and spend lots of money, as you can only buy their beer at their locations.

Tree House Brewing Company, creators of Julius, Green, Haze, and more, crafts unique & world-renowned beers on a wooded property in Charlton, Massachusetts.

I could go on and on about breweries and beers, I'm always in search of great IPA's and DIPA's.

Honestly 95% of what I drink is Yuengling Lager, but I do try to break out of the rut once in awhile.

Not sure these are really "craft brewers" as most people would define them, but Ohio has Great Lakes (Cleveland), Rheingeist (Cincinnati) and Warped Wing (Dayton) that I enjoy. Normally, I'll go for red ales or pilsners. Occasionally, a lower-octane Stout hits the spot.

We don't get that regularly here in the Dayton area. I don't remember it poorly from the time or two I had one, we just don't see it on the shelves.

I did hear about their special Super Bowl cans vanishing in record time.

It was average at best when I lived in Cincinnati back in the ‘80s.

It certainly isn't what you typically think of as "craft beer".

Not unlike Yuengling, Hudepohl is a name with a lot of history behind it. A lot of Germans (including my great-great grandfather) settled in Cincinnati in the late 19th century and Hudepohl was one of several companies trying to give them a taste of home.

Guess one thing I learned just today is that Hudepohl is responsible for the infamous Little Kings that punctuated many people's Fridays during my high school years. For some dumb reason, those were easy to get up here back then.

That was my favorite beer in Cincinnati. I think it was Schoenling though unless Hudey owned them. It did go skunky fast though. We saw a few bottles in San Francisco on our honeymoon and got them. They did not travel well.😜

Other way around actually. the brand name Hudepohl was sold to Shoenling back in 1986. The current ownership is called Cincinnati Beverage Co. or CinBev.

Interesting. I remember going to the Schoenling brewery to pick up a keg once for a rugby tournament.

One of my favorites is Anchor Steam Porter.  Haven't seen it in a while.

P.S.  Although I've no idea what a while looks like...I can always tell when one has been by.

In der bag:
Cleveland Hi-Bore driver, Maltby 5 wood, Maltby hybrid, Maltby irons and wedges (23 to 50) Vokey 59/07, Cleveland Niblick (LH-42), and a Maltby mallet putter.                                                                                                                                                 "When the going gets tough...it's tough to get going."

That is a good one. I like porters and stouts the most.

Same here.  Stouts and porters seem a less finicky brew.

I still think of Juicy Lucy...lol. maybe it was just that I was thirsty but that might be one of my favorite IPAs of all time.

I had a goblet of Woodoo Ranger Belgian at Yard house.. loved it enough to stop by the grocery store to buy a variety pack. The IPA did not disappoint.

Well that's just great.

You had to go mention Anchor Steam and now I'm going to have to run my butt into the wilds of Dayton, OH (and it gets wild) to get Anchor Steam from the one place I know has it.

Thanks for nothing.

Lucy Juicy is really good, as are all of the other beers from Solace Brewing that I've had.  Another good one in northern VA is Aslin, who have opened a small brewpub in Herndon, right around the corner from me.

As for styles, I had been getting a bit tired of extremely hopped IPAs, it seemed that brewers were simply trying to make the bitterest beers they could.  The newer trend towards cloudy (unfiltered) IPAs is more to my taste, a bit creamier, a bit more citrus flavor and aroma, and noticeably less bitterness.

Our clubhouse has Hazy like a Fox on tap that you would love then.

I agree about the overly hoppy and bitter trend. It's seems like a bit of competetive trick to stand out just for the sake of it. But then I am sure there are barbarians who can't get enough hops.

    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
