If you use a launch monitor light FlightScope or Trackman on the range to figure out your dispersion (Shot Zone), do you go by "carry" or "total"? I would assume total, but I feel like sometimes the total (carry plus roll) is a little bit further than I see what is happening on the course. Or do you go by carry and use your personal experience to estimate the roll? Obviously, the roll depends heavily on course conditions and angle of fairways or greens.

Just wondering what your thoughts or procedures are?

I go by carry. It's the more important number. Once you have your carry yardage, you use it for shot selection based on conditions and situation.

Carry.

Roll is important when you consider your driver or 3-wood (so you don't roll into a hazard), but carry is what matters more since you often have to carry a bunker, a creek, etc.

Plus, with irons, carry should almost equal total… there shouldn't be much roll-out on irons.

P.S. You can set surface conditions in Flightscope… I'd recommend setting them to "soft" to minimize roll-out.

As @iacas  said i would recommend Carry and also increse your dispersion 25%.
That´s because on the range you are on a perfect lie, with no pressure and not affected by the elements. In conditions like that your dispersion will be tighter than when your are at the golf course.

So if the lunch monitor said thar your dispersion is 40 yards left/rigth you´d better use 50 yards dispersion on the golf course.

No need for the latter.

It's already been stated but I don't pay attention to total when working on flightscope, only carry. I did have a related question and didn't see this discussed anywhere unless I  missed it.  The Numbers I get on flightscope indoors seem to be inflated versus actual when I'm playing. Maybe because I'm hitting off a mat?  Anyone have similar experience?

You could have some settings that need some tweaking. Like the distance above sea level, or whatever else.

Or it could be the mats.

Good point I'll check those.

How much is it off?

I can never really compare LM readings to the course, because I can't really see exactly where the balls land on the green relative to where I hit them from. My laser isn't exact either unless I hit a wall or tree. Plus, there's usually condition such as a light breeze that either assists or detracts from the distances. I can imagine there being easily 5% error.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
