63 with two bogeys. God damn.

You'll are crazy thinking this will shut Johnny Miller up. 63 on Oakmont on Sunday to win the US Open will ring in our ears for a long time (as it should, to be honest).

Whoops forgot I was delayed 5 minutes. Hey announcers out there, whenever Miller brings up his 63, just say what about that Justin Thomas. :-D

Johnny's got a trophy. Justin better get his now or Johnny still has bragging rights - still the lowest final round in US Open history.

Yeah.

And… Johnny doesn't mention the 63 nearly as often as people seem to think he does.

Johnny has never struck me as a braggart. In fact, I remember him talking about the 'divine intervention' on the practice tee before his record round, talking about a 'voice' that told him to open his stance. He gives credit to the voice, not himself.

Just listen to how many times he talks about himself when he's on a broadcast. I don't mind it, but he's pretty full of himself.

Well, I've certainly heard him talk about his experiences when he played while broadcasting, but not in a 'I was so much better than them' or other kind of way to make him sound superior. He relates his experiences.

I disagree. I think there's a bit of Baader-Meinhof or something going on there.

I've listened to a LOT of Johnny Miller talk, and he'll call players out as choking or making bad decisions, but he doesn't talk about himself nearly as much as people think. And he doesn't mention his 63 very often. Most of the times it's mentioned (not all that often), someone else brings it up and he "awww shucks" it away.

And he's right. It's a birdie-fest out there. He's not talking about himself.

But… but… the USGA set the course up to punish players in 1974… they couldn't possibly allow them to shoot good scores in 2017. :-P

Just teasin' ya. One round (or three) won't change your opinion. I know.

And no, @DeadMan, this course isn't set up like a typical U.S. Open course. (To the USGA's credit, somewhat.)

Definitely not. And I'm on board with it being a good thing. Johnny's 63 at Oakmont is better than JT's today, though. Sunday plus Oakmont trumps that, and I don't think it's close.

I know, and if you recall my first post on this, I said that I hoped the USGA wouldn't trick it up. They haven't. So good on them.

I'm not sure if the announcers are surprised that moving the tees up on the hole decreased the scoring average.  I mean... 60 yards is significant.

    • Day 211 (29 Nov 24) - Friday men’s round albeit a solo foursome (temps in the 40’s, day after Thanksgiving and the average age closer to 75 - I’m a youngster at 65).  Interesting day of semi-solid play (8 of 18 GIR). Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff.
