just curious why true blade wedges feel different than blade irons. I use srixon 945 irons and Cleveland 588 wedges. Comparing my closest two the 945 PW and my 50 wedge they feel different. Not sure how to explain it but are wedges made with a harder metal?  Or is it the forged metal that I'm feeling?

I think the weight has something to do with it.  My 54 (head) weighed 308 grams prior to assembly while my PW (head) weighed 291.  Even after tip-trimming (1/2 per 7 grams) the clubs feel distinct.  Both are carbon steel, although the PW is 1035 and the SW is 1025c.

In der bag:
Cleveland Hi-Bore driver, Maltby 5 wood, Maltby hybrid, Maltby irons and wedges (23 to 50) Vokey 59/07, Cleveland Niblick (LH-42), and a Maltby mallet putter.                                                                                                                                                 "When the going gets tough...it's tough to get going."

Three things to consider:

  1. the Z945 irons and the 588 RTX/ 588 RTX 2.0 are different clubhead models.
  2. the Z945 irons have the Tour VT-sole (beveled), although in a more muted way than other Z-irons; the Cle 588 RTX and 588 RTX 2.0 do not have the beveled soles; these have traditional smooth soles; the RTX 3.0 is the first Cle wedge to have the beveled sole
  3. The 588 RTX wedges have varied bounce; possibly you have more or less bounce in the 50* than in your PW.

Dang. You are good a using google.

If you are a 25 handicap, I highly doubt you have the feel to discern the difference between the metals.

1. @WUTiger routinely posts in the equipment topics with a good depth of knowledge.

2. You don't need to be a low handicap to feel the difference between golf clubs.

3. Stop being insulting.

IMO it's probably as simple as different purposes, I don't use my wedges like a full swing club. There are so many variables with wedges, partial shots, stance alterations, funky lies and the touch that goes with all that. I have different shafts in my wedges it's just not the same thing. But I don't notice a different "feel" in the way the ball "feels" coming off the face with a full swing. So much of that is where on the face and the quality of the contact. Well struck full shots certainly feel similar.

Dave :-)
