So did the top players skip as many events back in the 60's, 70's 80's or the 90's?  I would think that they didn't.

And the reason that they can even structure their schedule is the huge amount of money they make.

When the event is 3 weeks from the British Open, which requires significant travel and even some prep due to potentially different types of courses and conditions, yep.

I enjoyed the tournament this week.  A hard course and good play won.

I don't understand those that only tune in if 2 or 3 of their favorite players are in the field.  Of course, I generally tune in as background noise as I nap on the couch after having played golf, so... ;-)

In David's bag....

I watched the women this week and a little bit of the senior men. I didn't watch any of the PGA Tour.

It was mostly background while I worked, but I was more interested in the course and the women playing a major than the men playing this event.

Lotta skipped events in there. Jack was picky and selective back then, too.

I wonder if the increased prize money made him care about winning less than it would have in the previous generation of pro golfers.

</sarcasm> <-- in case it wasn't already obvious.

Cool photo!

I turned it on just in time for the playoff.  Thought it was odd how (seemingly) quickly CHIII played his second and third shots.  Seemed very rushed.  Of course, that is Monday Morning QBing based on the fact that the results of each shot were poor.  If they were good shots, he'd get extra praise for playing briskly and well.

Congrats Kyle Stanley.  I'll never forget his first win at Waste Management after so spectacularly choking away his win the week before at Torrey, and for that reason I always think of Spencer Levin when I think of Stanley because he's the one who choked away Waste Management so Stanley could win it.  He's still searching for his comeback win though.

They started to do so after Nicklaus came along and showed them how to "peak for the majors." Here are the number of tournaments Nicklaus entered for many years:

Great info, thanks....some years are just crazy light......12 events in 79 when still in his 30s!
