I use the hybrids, as I just hit them better. I'm more consistent with the hybrids than even a 6-iron. Can I hit a six iron or higher absolutely but my misses are never as bad with the hybrids. And you can really hit a hybrid well out of heavy rough it just glides through it. So to me, I don't know why more players won't use more hybrids.

Yep - I'm with you on the hybrids sliding through the rough so much better than irons, thats the main reason I dropped the 5i this year for a hybrid

If one is concerned by what ones playing partners think of them, then surely hitting good scores will impress those partners far more than clubs?

I've just ordered a 5h after having success with my 3h (4i is replaced with a 7 wood right now, which I just like too much to drop). My only concern with getting a 5h was whether over-reliance would impede my ability to improve as quickly by masking errors. But even if that were the case, I'd rather be able to play consistent golf at this stage, and improve more gradually thereafter. Matter of priorities.

I really do not agree that carrying a one or two iron relates to I.Q.  They have their uses and some are quite proficient with them. That being said, I still carry 4I thru Gap, but have a redundant hybrid.

Yes, the 1 and 2 irons are for punching out of the woods and underbrush when they hit it in there! And I have no idea what a "redundant" hybrid is!
