I played a local course today with two friends.  We decided to play the gold tees. We teed off a little after 10:12, our tee time.   3 hours later we finish the front 9.  I ask the manager if instead of playing the slow back if we could play the front 9 again.   He agreed.  We finished in 1:38.    Now the problem.   I was going to check the rating and slope for these tees and I asked about it.   It wasn't posted on the score card.  They said they applied for GAM for the senior tees but currently it doesn't exist!   Am I out of luck since we played from the gold tees and there currently is no rating and slope?   I played well today.

Review the USGA Handicap Manual, Section 5-2g.  If you scroll to the end, there is a chart for Men.  Next, locate the closest rated set of tees for Men at the course you played. Either adjust for the longer or shorter total yardage from the appropriate rated tee.

The USGA also has a listing of course's 9 hole ratings so you can post two 9 hole scores.

The course is Genesee Valley Meadows in Swartz Creek, Michigan.   On the score card they have a slope and rating for the blue, white and the red tees.   They recently installed gold tees and I wrongly assumed they had yardages, slopes and ratings for these tees.   I don't know the yardages and the slopes and ratings do not exist yet.  There is no way to extrapolate distances from either the white tees or the red tees.

I looked on the USGA website and I couldn't find the course listed.

Score card

The gold tees definitely weren't 6495 yards (white tees) but they weren't close to the 5057 (red tees) either.

So do I just guess the distances?   I don't have a clue.

In this instance, without the total yardage of the golf tees, you are stuck.  In theory, next time, you could take a gps reading on each tee, jot down the result and then get a total.  I would wait for GAM to rate the new tees.

I found a Genesee Valley Golf Club on the database but it is in NY.  I'm assuming that's not the course.  Even if it is, no gold tees listed though.

That is really strange that the course looks really nice on the web site, it has rating/slope (for the other tee boxes) on the scorecard, and it's not listed on the USGA database.  That has never been the case for a course I've looked up.

Instead of waiting to play again, and using your gps to calculate the difference between the rated tees and unrated tees  - can't you just go to google maps and get a fairly accurate measurement of the yardage and use this?

Also, yardages aren't really completely accurate based on the movement of the tee markers anyway so I would say you should be able to make a "best guess" at the yardage of the tees you played. Approximately how much shorter were they from the longer tees, or how much longer were they compared to the shorter tees? It doesn't need to be an on the nose yardage.

I don't have a clue or would even try to guess the differences from the white or red tees.   I'll just chalk it up to a nice practice round.

Good idea Joe.   That sounds like work!   I did look at Google Maps but the senior tees are newer than the latest rendition of Google Maps.   I could guestimate the tee locations.....   Rough and dirty about 2850 yards (front 9).   I now can go to the USGA site and get some more information.
