Maybe one of the most underrated pitchers after the year 2000.

Fivethirtyeight did a good article on his accomplishments,

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/roy-halladay-was-the-greatest-pitcher-of-his-generation/

1. 2-Cy Young awards.
2. Highest WAR for a pitcher after the year 2000.
3. Most complete games after the year 2000 (It's not even close, 65 to Sabathia's 38)
4. One of 6 pitches to ever win a Cy Young in both the AL and NL.

Tragic. Excellent pitcher, one of the best of his time, and a great guy from everything I've ever read about him.

I'm not sure I've heard of anyone that would say he's underrated. Maybe people didn't know who he was since he pitched for mediocre Toronto teams.

IIRC he was always considered one of the best pitchers in the league, even into his later years. He was a very efficient contact pitcher, not known for racking up Ks, but it's the reason he's pitched so many complete games.

I think that makes him underrated.

Two Cy Young Awards say otherwise :-P

Mike Mussina was underrated. Doc Halladay was one of the best in his day and people knew it.

I think all you need to know about his good-guyness is that he went to the zoo with a Phillies fan who created a blog called I Want to Go to the Zoo With Roy Halladay. (It seems silly, but it was so cool as someone who followed that blog before and as it was happening.)

He was the bane of my existence as a Red Sox fan when he was a Jay, but only because he was so damn good.
