We played today with @kpaulhus in Tampa at his course, but I think the cold weather kept her reserved.  ;-)

haha wouldn't be anything I've never heard. I had to refrain from blurting out one after that nasty hook I hit on #10.

I play with a woman whose New Years resolution is not to drop f-bombs playing golf. That lasted about two holes...

it really is just part of our culture, part of some people’s personality, part of golf, and not a big deal. I try not to swear in front of old ladies, or if I’m put with people I don’t know, unless they swear first! Just because it may make them uncomfortable.

Mixed company or not, it isn't the words we use that offend, invite ridicule or make others feel uncomfortable. It's the inability to keep some semblance of composure. The occasional "damn it" or even an f-bomb is normal. It's how quickly we can laugh it off or how we handle poor play throughout the round that matters, IMO.

I agree totally. When I play with certain people who let loose on every bad shot, I just think it’s stupid and childish. Cussing up a storm shows a lack of composure, and it probably isn’t going to help on the next shot. But dropping a brief expletive can be a way of showing frustration and then just letting it go. Maybe?

I don't mind if people occasionally let loose with a flurry of colorful language, but I don't like playing with hotheads. I mean those people who turn red when they cuss.

I don't understand why so-called "curse words" are unacceptable, when you can say the exact same thing using a different word, and that's okay.

Excrement!   Sex act!   Woman's private parts!

Those above are acceptable, and yet they are the exact same thing as the related curse words, and everyone knows it!   It's just weird that the so-called "curse words" are unacceptable for some reason.

Sure you do. There are different words for the same thing, because they have different shades of meaning.

The next time you hit a bad shot, just start yelling "Intercourse!" or call your partner a "penis head" and his wife a "vagina".

Language is like a toolbox, and crude words are your sledge hammers. Use them too often and you destroy your language skills. But, there are (rare) situations when a sledge hammer is exactly the right tool. Saving it for those situations makes it more effective.

I was told this many years ago.  I try to reserve those special words so people really understand when I'm feeling very strong, and not happy, emotion.

I am guilty of a few brief expletives if I am playing with a couple of my male friends.  If I am playing with a woman (especially one I have just met) I find it very easy to keep the trash talk down - I suspect that was ingrained in me at a young age.  I know they are just words, but if someone cannot complete a full sentence without using the F bomb 5 or 6 times I am turned off and stop listening.

    • First going to spain for a long weekend in March probably going to play La Quinta, Los Arqueros and Fina Cortesin, and first week in May will compete in the Crawsnest Tassie at Carnoustie golf links, that will be a full week of golf golf golf and more golf. Did play it last year for the first time and it is awesome.
    • Scrubs is coming back to ABC. February 25.
    • Day 47: simulator day! Played St. Andrew’s and shot a +1. Not bad, especially with having to putt at this simulator set up. Had about 5 minutes at the end to work on some feels as well.
    • I think you're saying it's preposterous to think that the areas on this club are anything like what's shown here: 30mm toward the toe or heel loses only 5% distance? Highly, highly doubtful. So a guy who hits the ball there and normally hits the ball about 250… will hit it instead about 238. By missing the sweet spot by about 1.2 inches? Highly, highly doubtful. Heck, the high heel barely gets into the red, and orange is only "up to" 10%! @M2R, I've never heard of "Ask Golf Nut" but I'm dubious of his claims in the video and really, really dubious of what's on his site: "Why AskGolfNut Is the Most Trusted Data-Driven Golf Resource". Hmmmmmm.
