Day 172 - June 18, 2020

Hit balls at CHQ today. Many 7I/6I, and about 20 drivers. Pretty good right now.

Erik J. Barzeski —  I knock a ball. It goes in a gopher hole. 🏌🏼‍♂️

Day 31 - More helicopter still. Need to keep working on my pivot, hips are still swaying a bit too much. Much improved, but I just need to stick with it.

Day 110 - Off day today.  My left wrist is a bit sore so I just did a few swing feel motions with a 6 iron.

Day 4.  Some range work and some putting practice this morning, followed by practice on-course.  I say that instead of playing;  the round was more about playing golf with mom than about a score, and I'd often do things I wouldn't do if the goal was a lot score, but I got some good practice in.  For example, on a shorter but narrow par-4, if I were playing for a score I'd probably hit a hybrid off the tee.  Instead, I hit a 5-iron, a typical club I hit into a narrow par-3 at my home course, imagining that the tee was there.  I then finished the hole from where it ended up.  Periodically, I'd try a shot I wouldn't be attempting normally.

Day 173 - June 19, 2020

Played holes 13-18 at Whispering Woods after caddying for Sculley in the morning. Played pretty well considering. GREAT driver on 18.

Day 194

Played 18 today. Swing thoughts noted in my “My Swing” thread were nonexistent. Just terrible implementation/execution of my plan. Drove the ball very well. Topped a ridiculous number of approach shots. Putting was really good, except for one hole where I mailed it in before I even made it on the green and 3-putted accordingly. Short game hit or miss.

DAY 1  (well really day 5).   I joined a country club that offers a summer membership... goes from basically June 1 until October 30.  I am doing this for three reasons.  First, it is very private so I will not be exposed to a lot of people (my way of social distancing).  Second, they have very nice practice facilities (LARGE putting green, practice green for short wedge work with bunker, another practice green more for chipping, and a large range), plus the practice balls are all ProV1s.  Third, I am doing 30 minute lessons early in the morning on Tuesday-Friday and practicing 4-5 hours each day.  My goal is to stay healthy and improve my game.

The approach of 30 minute lessons each day, came from a book, where a guy went from a 12 HCP to 0 in a year... and from my experience, watching what happens at a couple of junior academies I have seen.

Saturday was a catch up day.   I spent 45 minutes on the putting green (the first 15 using the Pelz Putting Tutor to give feedback on starting the ball on line) and then 30 minutes of an assessment where I set up 4 tees around the hole at 6 feet and hit 10 putts from each of the locations.  I made 32 of the 40 putts.  The goal is 80% so I passed.

Then I spent a couple of hours hitting 20-30 yard pitch shots to the green... working on technique, since if any of you remember from my past... I have the yips... which is mostly caused by bad technique which I am working to change.

I look forward to reading about everyone else's practice and learning what is working for you.

Day 5.  It dawned on me earlier today:  there are some stretches I do when warming up for golf that I haven't done off the golf course in a while -- and maybe I should.  So I did.  Butterflies, some arm stretches, some leg stretches.

Oops, I numbered my last entry with the wrong day. Fixed in the quote above.

Day 7

A continuation of yesterday outside with a 7i. I worked on opening up my hips and the correct movements to compress the ball.

It started raining and I had to go inside after 10 minutes.

Day 2    Stayed in today.  However, worked quite a while on my pivot... with several different drills.  For example, using a club across my chest rotating so my left shoulder gets under my chin, and following through so I come up on my right toe.

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
