Day 25 (21 Jul 21) - played 18 today with the Mrs at the local course.  Worked on being specific on where I wanted shots to land.  Was amazed at how “accurate” I was being. Not throwing darts per say, but was pretty close.  Made for easy pitches and chips onto the green when I missed.

Day 107 (7/22/21) - A "Blah" day at the range today. I hit a small bucket this afternoon and never quite got into a decent groove. Started out with 9-3 swings with an 8i then PW, then Driver to try my G400 with a 40 gm Distanza shaft in lieu of my normal 55 gm Alta CB. Although my best drive was with the Distanza, otherwise there was not enough difference to start using it at this point. More work needed.

Day 26 (22 Jul 21) - Grands staying with us next few days, however they wanted to hit whiffle / foam balls in the backyard.  Set them up in mini-range boxes.  Worked with each on good grip setup (oldest is 7 and her brother is 5 - neither have had much time with a club - beat comment of the day was when our oldest exclaimed “Look PawPaw - see how far that one went!”). I was able to get some swings in among the chaos with the 9i at the Chipster targets.  Not a bad way to practice drills.

Day 148.   I spent about ten minutes hitting full swings, various speeds, and got video for Evolvr so I can check in.  See my frustration (with myself) though:  I'm a little frustrated with my practicing.  Or with myself for not practicing as well as I should.  I think I was checking the shaft angle incorrectly over the past month, so I haven't made as much progress as I thought I had (although top of the backswing looks a lot better than it did a month ago, just not as good as it could be).  And I'm not making as much progress when I swing at speed.  I think I need to spend even more time on the slow "can I hit a 7-iron 100 yards?" swings.

Day 58, July 22, 2021:

I might be better off posting this in black. I did some three-quarter swing drills where on the you are wide on the backswing and narrow on the downswing in front of a mirror for about 17 minutes today.

Day 108 (7/23/21) - Aggravated my Tennis elbow yesterday to will be taking it easy for the next few days. Since my low point control has been poor lately, I worked on set up positions with my 7-wood and 7-iron, taking short swings focused on getting my low point in front of the ball.

Day 22:

Note: Reverted back to day 22 because I forgot to post yesterday, so my current streak is 22 of 24 days.

Woke up with a sore neck, which hasn't gone away yet, so not feeling like doing full swing practice. Did COVID-19 day 6 and 7 drills, and a little backswing practice using LVP camera.

Day 59, July 23, 2021;

Well maybe we’ll notice purple. Played 18 today, shot 75. I hit the ball very well. I could not buy a putt. Not a single putt outside 5 feet.

Guess my read is off, need to practice that, probably where I was off.

Day 149.  I played 18 today with two friends.  A very narrow course (the "Babe" course in Industry Hills), I had three lost balls that I don't think would have left the playing area if I had hit them at my home course.   I should have lost a fourth but sadly found it (my recovery was sufficiently difficult, and I tried playing high percentage shots, too, that I hit my fourth from closer to the tee than my provisional landed).  I still shot a 93 and hit many greens with full swings, even if they weren't all for in-regulation (but I still had 6 GIR).

Note to self:  play narrow courses a bit more, and get better at these tee shots.

Also I feel I putted well but I'm not going to gamble trying to get the stats off the GG.

Day 27 (23 Jul 21) - long day w/the grandkids, decided a few minutes with the putter was what was needed.  Worked on backswing - downswing length making sure both are equal length.

Day 109 (7/24/21) - Decided that I needed to review the 30-day Covid drills, so I started at the beginning with Day-1 - Early backswing. Did the left and right hand drills then added the pivot to A2, chipping a tennis ball in the yard for about 20-minutes using my 7-iron and 7-wood. When chipping the ball with this drill, I focused making a good turn thru the ball and making sure that my low point was in front of the ball.

Day 150.  Yay, I reached 150.

I spent ten minutes hitting balls slowly with my 6-iron, ensuring I didn't make too much of a shoulder swing, and thus stopped the backswing well prior to the shaft being parallel.  If these were on the range, I'd estimate they'd go maybe 110 yards at most.

[I really should get a Mevo]

Plans (obviously I need to post these day-of when I actually do things):  tomorrow I'm playing, then next week I'll resume some regular putting practice, mixed with some full swing of course, and will resume the April '20 challenge.

    • 12/24/2024 So Christmas Eve we hosted the family. But I still found some time before and some time after to get some solid mirror work in. Yay!
    • Day 85 - 2024-12-24 Practiced for 90 minutes (which probably means I hit about 60 golf balls). No launch monitor, but plenty of aids and feedback.
    • So got fitted in a 35" Odyssey Microhinge Double wide 'blade' yesterday at GG. Choice was between it, SQ to SQ, LAB DF3, Rose Axis and Mizuno Craft  (also a double wide). Apparently I'm pretty good a aiming right of the hole consistently regardless of putter type. But it all came down to distance control and the insert feel. We hit puts in the putting area for the fitting but then ended up on the aisle carpet to hit long 40ish feet putts. Which is where the Microhinge did the best for my stroke. The Mizuno was a close second. The DF3 and Axis weren't bad either but I just felt really confident over the Microhinge and slightly soft but firm contact resonated so well. FWIW, I wanted to like the lie-angle balanced putters more than I did and was prepared to spend a bit. I guess putting is the individualistic aspect of our game. Hopefully, I didn't leave anything on the table. Anyone who knows my putting knows I need all the help I can get.
    • The driver swing honestly feels good. Haven't played in a/the course for a bit but did pretty good at the sim place yesterday.  The idea has been to reduce twisting shaft instinctively at impact. For this have weakened left hand grip considerably. Pushed higher up in the hollow of the palm to take out index finger and thumb in pressure application which is a major are major contributors of shaft twisting at impact. On the flip side, right hand grip is way down in the lower part of the middle fingers. Not using index or thumb much at all. It also is designed to prevent getting underneath the shaft too much at impact. More of a float-loady  'paint the ball' feel through the ball. Overall address and neutral grip keeps both lead and trail sides on respective sides of the shaft instead of over or underneath the shaft. It seems it allows/promotes moving the shaft/club unit in unison with wrist/elbow/shoulder joints similar to an elephant swinging it's trunk. It does not feel like I am guiding the club path or trying to control club face at all. Fairly organic. Playing TPC Sawgrass in about a month. Will see how it all holds up. I hear its a good test.. heh.
