Day 16: Putted for 10 minutes then did some 9-3 swings with the new 716 AP2s.

The more connected backswing is feeling so good.

Hitting mat will be here tomorrow and by an awesome stroke of luck, the net I ordered that was on back order until the end of the month ended up being moved up to delivery this Friday.

Back in PA!

Day 218

Put a new hybrid in the bag today, so hit 30 balls (15 with old hybrid, 15 with new) with full swings to get an idea of how the two compare (for gapping purposes). Between the two hybrids, getting slightly more carry on the old hybrid, but it is lofted 1 degree lower, and shaft is 1 inch longer. Difference is negligible, and the look of the new club at address inspires more confidence (a touch deeper spoon shape, and larger face).

With full swing I'm not having to make a conscious effort to "feel" hip rotation anymore, which is good I think. I still try to feel it in my rehearsals/practice swings though.

Did a superspeed workout after kids were in bed.

Day 10:

I had a lesson last night with the PGA Instructor at our Club last night, it was great.  I incorporated the lesson into my sklz training club work out.

on to the workout.

Stretching exercises to start, after each swing set and to wrap up the session - hamstrings, back, shoulder and neck.

Focus points during workout.

take away - straight back, not going inside - straight back

on the balls of my feet - stop swinging from my heals

explode those hips thru, get my weight transferred from the right to the left.  I have been living on the right hip.

sets done

2 sets of 10 cross arm with proper posture and on the balls of my feat

2 sets of 10 with the sklz tempo grip trainer

2 sets of 10 swing drill working on exploding the hips thru and lifting up for Driver

2 sets of 10 sklz gold flex, odd number swings starting with the head at about 1 foot behind where the ball would be even number swing with the head at the ball position.

1 set of 15 baseball style singing back and forth on the balls of my feat maintaining balance while getting that core work in.  Hard and fast thru and back

each set was rotated from sklz tempo grip trainer to gold flex and back.  Izzo swing trainer band was used on all full golf swings.

Day 8:  Went to the range.  Intended on really trying to work on the inside out swing with the driver.  Not sure I was effective. Didn't get much good video and fell into the trap of just swinging, mostly too hard, over and over again until the bucket was done.  Then i got another bucket and did the same.

I wouldn't say it was a total waste, there were some take-aways, but i wish i was more efficient and effective with my time.  Going to try to go again tomorrow with a more specific plan.

Day 219

Did some full swings off a mat with a 7-iron. Two days out from a tournament, so just worked on pre-shot routine, and executing the swing I have now. Not going to work on priority piece anymore until after competition.

Also did some chipping/pitching practice into the net, just making sure contact was good.

Finished with a little bit of putting in my living room, making sure my new posture/alignment is natural.

Day 29.  Did a 5' around the world drill, averaged barely over 50%.  5 on first pass, 6 on next, then it took me 4 attempts to sink the last one (if straight-uphill is at 6:00, this was the 4:00 putt).

Also I've been calling it around the world when it should be called around the clock.

I incorporated my sklz tempo grip trainer, sklz gold flex, izzo swing trainer band & alignment sticks.

swing drills used - cross arm, 2 Driver drills; 3/4 wedge drill,

At my lesson Wednesday night i found out i was bailing out on my shots, swinging from my heals and brining the club back to flat inside.

    • Struggling a bit to wrist flex the right way to square the clubface. Right now, I can’t even exaggerate it enough to hook the ball around an alignment stick. The hip piece is a struggle as well. If I try to get the arm swing speed ramped up then I tend to have older patterns. Mix of either high right hip through impact, early extension. I can do arms down and right hip down more if I swing at like sub 70%. It’s not like I’m not trying to do the wrist stuff. My forearms got the workout today. 🤣 I would like to be able to swing 95% and not hit a big high push cut. It is such a weak shot.  I probably should have had the phone camera recording. I just wanted to see if I could hit push draws. I had the alignment stick up as a reference. I will look at some video tomorrow.
    • Question on realistic expectations.  I did a couple of quick google searches, one on "Average Club Head Speed of a 64 year old Amatuer" and one on a 64 year old Professional.  For the amatuer is indicated between 75-85 and for pros @ 105-112.  I am currently @ age 64, High HCP and @ 90mph.  I do not consider myself an above average golfer so I am a little shocked that I may be near the upper range for my age.  Are these stats accurate? I am hoping to get an increase in speed & distance, but if stats from Google are correct I am already a little above average for an amatuer my age so maybe improvement may be limited.  I plan to shoot for as much improvement as possible and am just curious what a reasonal expectation may be.
    • Where do you tend to miss it? When the green is below you, the ball is spending more time in the air, so to the extent that side spin is making it move one way or the other, it has more time to do that and therefore will be affected more. That's why it's so dang hard to hit a fairway that's a long way below you. When the ground gets in the way it stops the slice/hook spin from moving the ball away from the middle. If you play, let's say, a fade, then you want to aim further to the left to allow the fade to move the ball further. That also means if you play for a fade and don't hit a fade you're going to miss by more than you would if the green was at the same level.  I think the person who brought this up is trying to limit the impact of that by hitting it lower so the ball doesn't spend as much time in the air. If that's not how you normally hit it and you haven't practiced it, then it's likely going to be more detrimental than just figuring out how to deal with your normal shot.
