day 95: played 18 holes for our monthly club championship today.. ended up with an 88, but I have played bad first 9 holes (47 strokes)..  the second 9 were better scoring a 41 for which i missed 4 birdie puts in a row.. yesterdays preparation (9 holes) were better with 40 strokes, so I am a bit disappointed.. still got closest to the pin on one of the 4 holes that we played.

cheers Chris

Day 97.  More of the step drill, I've now got a few where I'm able to setup feet together, step back with some swing back, step forward, then hit (I've yet to have anything other than a bladed shot off of the step-forward and hit together).

Played 18 this morning. New course. Aside from 2 terrible swings with driver, I struck the ball really well today. Going to keep working on the slow stuff.

Day 226 -

Putting - stroked 5' putts on y PuttOUT mat going through my full routine.

Full swing - I've noticed that when the tempo of my swing gets out of whack - typically too slow backswing, followed by way too fast downswing in an "attack the ball mode" - I  leave the clubface open resulting in a shot which looks like a weak, high shank. I spent time today with my 9-iron making practice swings trying to focus on tempo and making sure that I return the clubface to square.

Day 98.  More of the step drill, a few times during the day, and I think I'm finally getting it, up to and including making a good hit at the ball.  If I keep this up tomorrow, I'll try to get some [likely indoor] video to check that I'm doing it right.

Day 227 - Using a practice station (alignment rods set in a "T") but without a ball I made practice swings today with my 9-iron moving from A3 to A9 focusing on body rotation and hand positions. Headed to the range tomorrow and will focus on hitting shots this way.

Also practiced hitting short wedge shots with my Orange Whip wedged.

Continued with the same routine as last week because I seem to be improving ball striking. Tried to work in faster swings sooner, but had to back off.

Day 99.  The day got away from me, but I did get five minutes while dinner was in the oven to practice the step drill.  It's going well enough I think I'll take video tomorrow.

Day 228 - Range and practice green work today - about 2 hours.

Range - Started with 8i swinging A3 to A9, this time focused on making sure that I finished with my chest turned completely toward the target and my weight on my left side. Also focused on making swings with good tempo, rather than trying to smash the ball. Then worked through 9i, PW,UW, 7H, 6H, HW and Driver - longer swings but same focus.

Practice Green - Putting focus today was on distance control using a drills from the "Instinct Putting" book. Finished by hitting short wedge shots to different holes and putting out.

Day 1 - Starting over as the streak ended at 181 days (personal best) and it was a planned break as the missus and I were to take a cruise and I would have been off grid.  Dang pre-Covid test kept us from going, so we quarantined at the beach place for a few days.  Now we start over....

Pitches in the backyard with the Eye2 wedges (thinking about gaming them again).  Worked on the difference in feel in bounce between the  Eye2 57.5 and Eye2+ 53.5 (also have a 50.5 Eye2 that balances out the trio).  Really like these wedges so I will take them out for the next few rounds.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
