Day 84: 2/24/2023

I got lots of putting practice in today. I did the gate drills and numerous putt-out drills. I didn't use the devil ball today.

I also got to hit balls first thing this morning in the garage net. Everything felt pretty good, which means I'd better get some video to see if or how much I've reverted. I'll try and do that tomorrow morning. In the meantime, I got in front of the mirror for slow motion swings for about 5 or 10 minutes today, trying to get a feel for what the swing I'm trying to do feels like.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Day 55: Mirror work, playing around with the new downswing drill I’m working on. Looks like it’s something I can do, as long as I’m doing it fairly slowly.

I use 7 iron for working on particular items.

Today was working on trail arm "down"

working on aggressive transition and down and thru

working on imagining/seeing club path and duplicate with out thought and free loose swing, no tension

Total 60 balls with 7 iron; last 20 were speed and no thinking.

40 balls with 8 iron, same, speed and no thinking.

20 balls 5 iron, same, speed and no thinking.

Day 117, February 25, 2023

18 balls after a fairly long day. Hit a few (three?) at medium speed without stopping. Really getting back to some old good feels.

Day 2 (26 Feb 23) - Picked back up with choked down bump and run shots in the backyard that had to fly under the limbs of the tulip tree (read - had to keep shots 5ft at the apex at about 30 yards - and the tree is about halfway the distance).  Too high and it rattles the limbs, too low and it stops way short.  Having those upper and lower controls really forced focus on swing speed and ball position.

Day 86: 2/26/2023

Went to the indoor range early today. Filmed my swing to see where it was in terms of the stuff I've been working on. I was actually pretty pleased. Looks like I'm making progress. So, after filming my swing I did my work on my priority pieces and then worked on chipping for 15 minutes. Hit driver a half dozen times. Then worked on pitch shots for about 20 minutes.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

    • Day 15 - 2024-10-15 Mirror work. Watched one of my D1 players play today (67, plus -1 on the two holes he played to finish up a second-round 72). Well, you know what to work on… 😄
    • Day 166 (15 Oct 24) - Worked with the 6i into the net today.  Focused on the legs - slight knee bend, keeping pressure on lead foot, getting rotation thru contact.
    • No. The Steelers aren't paying either of them very much. They're not gonna get rid of a SB winning QB in case Justin is injured or something.
    • It could be to exhibit for trade bait.   Some teams may be looking for another QB (Miami) and if Wilson plays well, the compensation could be large.
    • Ball strike is king. You hit with a glancing blow (hook or slice), your smash factor just decreases a ton. Having a face to path angle of like 20 degrees versus something like 3 degrees is huge.  Yea, getting in shape is a good idea all around. Power is moving something heavy really fast. So, increasing how much you can lift, then improving on how fast you can move it will improve your power. In general, I think the two biggest tests for distance is like a chest press and standing vertical high jump. Some people are gifted with fast hands, but having good lower body can amplify what you have. Using the ground the correct way really ramps up the rotation speed, and then that can get the clubhead moving faster. Still, the hands do get down from the top of the backswing really fast.  If you start gaining strength and power gains. Knowing how to use the ground properly is important. You can have all the leg strength, but if you are not activating it correctly it is a waste. That is where good mechanics come into play.
