Day 272, July 30, 2023

Not as many balls as yesterday (sprinkled in a lot of cleanup), but went downtown again and got some work in, almost all to do with the backswing. It's crazy how much I have to feel the right wrist curl instead of folding back like most players.

Day 94 - Played 18 holes.

Pretty happy with how I played overall. Hit a lot of very high quality shots and my misses were in the right places too.

Couple sloppy bogeys from inside 100yds due to poor wedge shots and poor chips but very solid day off the tee and with the irons.

Poor speed control with putter too, but putting and short game have been neglected lately due to so much work on my full swing so not all that surprised. Should be relatively easy to work on.

Had a good balance of playing golf vs thinking about my priority pieces.

Day 45: Jul 30

Lesson followed by range practice. Continuing to work on clubpath, including drills to create an extreme in-to-out clubpath. I’m increasingly understanding the feelings I’m trying to achieve and the trackman data shows that it’s working.

Range time focused on the same feels, followed by plenty of 3-wood practice focusing on a slightly bowed wrist (closing the clubface) at the top of the backswing. The result was far better clubface control and a generally controlled shot shape.

Day 273, July 31, 2023

Hit some putts on the new putting green. It's a tough one. Two of the holes are only a few feet from a true crown.

Day 95 - Chipped and putted and The Stack session.

Chipping need to trust my 50 degree more and not as much forward shaft lean.

Putting speed was much better today.

Day 41 (31 Jul 23) - Worked on setup, stance today with primary focus on “feeling” the weight on the lead foot.  Hit a few easy pitches w/the 56 from varied distances.

Day 1: Due to home and work life I’ve not been about to get any time of regular practice but today was able to to swing in slow motion working up to about 70% swing speed. Just wanted my right knee to stay in. Load a little longer before move target side. Felt pretty good.

Day 14: lighter day today. Just mirror work. Working on my backswing feels to make sure I’m getting steep/vertical enough.

Day 46: Aug 1

Round of golf. A poor start over the opening two holes, then a really good run over 12 holes (+8 gross, which is terrific for where I am on my golfing journey). Then some bumpy moments mixed in with good golf coming home.

One thing I’m trying to do - not always successfully - is having a better decision-making process before stepping into the shot. How’s the lie? Where can I land the ball? Where do I want to be playing from next? Some of that is happening, but not consistently enough. As before, it’s a skill that only really improves by playing golf.

Day 24, July 1st, 2023

Went to the range after work. Did about 40 practice drills where I did about 3 reps of backswing feeling the arm slow to a stop at A3, pause, bring hands down to right pocket at A5, pause, then pump and hit ball by focusing on turning better (extending left leg).

Then worked on some short game after.

Day 274, August 1, 2023

Played 18 holes. Failed to birdie 8, 10, 13, or 18. So, complete and utter failure! Actually I hit the ball pretty well with my right wrist curl feel.

Day 96 - Indoor putting in the basement. Played around with setup a bit, mainly hand positioning and started making much better contact when my hands were slightly forward at address. Like a very minor forward press before I start the backswing.

Did the yardstick drill focusing on that and got 15/20. Not sure what a "good" score is there but I was pleased with strike quality on all 20 as I had been hitting quite a few off the bottom of the putter recently.

Day 97 - Practice session at the range, chipped and putted too.

Just continuing to work slowly on priority piece with irons, getting to the point now where I can immediately feel when it's right/wrong during the backswing.

Made good progress with wedges, worked on face alignment at address and that helped minimize the miss I had been having which was a straight push to the right.

Putting was very good with the slight forward press. I'm doing it at setup rather than as a trigger to start the backswing, just feels better to me that way. It's such a small forward press that if I filmed it it might not even be noticeable unless you knew to look for it.

Spent more time chipping with my 50 degree for bump and runs, it went ok. was clipping the ground behind the ball more often than I'd like, lifting the heel of the club up slightly at address seemed to help some. Just need to keep practicing.

    • Okay, I'm genuinely curious about this "biodegradable leather" trend in golf. Are we talking snake oil here? I mean, golf balls, clubs... they all end up in the water eventually. Is this just greenwashing, or is there actually a real environmental benefit? And honestly, does it even perform as well as traditional leather? I don't want to sacrifice distance for the planet, you know? Anyone with real-world experience with these eco-friendly golf goods? Spill the tea!
