Day 54:

Worked on full swing and short game. Full swing not great, too dark to really get anything out of it, so moved to short game work for majority of practice today.

Day 103: Went to the range and filmed my drill swings. My posture could still be better. Besides that, looks pretty good. Next step is to not pause between parts of the drill and work on incorporating this into the full swing.

Day 7 (19 Oct 23) - solo round at Minnesott, pace was laid back so I was able to work on short game, making multiple approaches with the wedges, working on putting speed on the greens while waiting for the foursome ahead who were in no hurry nor willing to let me play thru.

Day 353, October 19, 2023

Played 18 holes with @cedrictheo. Hit a lot of low spinners to good effect: one went in, one went to about five feet from a really tough place, etc.

Erik J. Barzeski —  I knock a ball. It goes in a gopher hole. 🏌🏼‍♂️

Day 8 (20 Oct 23) - worked with putter and ball speed, stepping each putt progressively shorter.  Lag the first to a set target up to 10’ away.  Each putt had to finish shorter (shooting for a distance no closer than a foot away from the previous ball finish point), got it right about 60% of the time.  Mechanics side - same tempo, quiet hands (pendulum effect), backswing length-downswing finish same distance from impact point - only variable, length of backswing to control distance.

Day 167 - Indoor putting at home. Did the yardstick drill with solid results.

@iacas is there a certain % one should be aiming for when doing the yardstick drill? Like what's a "good" score out of 10?

    • Is there a rule against these guys using their phones during rounds? There's no way I could just stand around waiting during these interminably long rounds when I could be watching earwax removal, cyst popping, or ingrown toenail removal videos like I usually do
    • Sorry, I meant Erik. I type faster than I think. 🤷‍♂️
    • I've never had my entire bag walk off before. One time (about 15 years ago) somebody did nick my range finder off my bag. I had a Bushnell Range Finder in the hanging clip-on hard-case thing on my bag. Then at the turn somebody snatched the rangefinder off my golf bag, left that hardcase behind. It happened while me and my group were inside getting hot-dogs and such. I've heard it has happened to others as well. Since then I kept my rangefinder in my golf bag's pouch for it rather than dangling on the bag in the hard case.
    • I disagree on this. Speed training is just moving something fast, it doesn't usually require much loading. This is why when you train for body building or upping your PB's on amount you can lift it doesn't translate to speed. Actuality they can interfere with the adaptation of one another.  Yes, generally weightlifting will improve grip strength. In a lot of cases grip strength is a limiting factor on your PB's on increasing weight. If your hands give out at 300-lb deadlift, but your hamstrings are good for 400-lbs you will never PB. That is why most people use grips when lifting, to eliminate the grip strength issue.  That doesn't necessarily translate to clubhead speed.  There are plenty of golfers, who have never touched a weight, can swing fast. I think grip strength correlates because when they test PGA tour players, they have been hitting golf balls for decades. It's something that gets developed over hours and hours of practice. When the grip strength trend was going on twitter/youtube last year or what not, they tested the grip strength of MMA fighters, many can't crack 120 lbs. They work out way more than me, I crack 125 lbs+ with my off hand. My dominant hand is 165 lbs.  You have high schoolers with 120 mph club head speed, who probably don't have that high grip strength yet.
