My wife has one of those big birthdays coming up, you know, one that ends in zero. To ease the trauma I'm thinking of a nice vacation. We both enjoyed Bermuda but I would like to try someplace else. I want to golf, she wants to sit on the beach and wonder where the time went. We are both fine with this.

So the upsides of Bermuda that I would like to find. Great beaches and golf. Small and safe. As for safe, how much of the advise you get to not leave the resort on some of the islands is just false info from the resort to keep you there? I know they would rather I spend $50 for breakfast there vs $10 at small local place, I would like to be able to get out and about. I heard positive things about Nevis and St Kitts.

So if anyone has some personal experience they would share I would be grateful.

I can't recommend the Caribbean.   We've been to Cancun several times but last year decided to stay in the US.   We visited Siesta Key, FL.    The beaches are some of the best in the world and there are many golf courses nearby.

From the land of perpetual cloudiness.   I'm Denny

Have you ever considered Antigua?   You can rent a villa in Jolly Harbour for less than a grand per week American.  Try to rent a golf cart as well, it makes trips to the grocery store and beach much easier.  There’s two golf courses there, Cedar Valley and the Jolly Harbour Golf Club.   Cedar Valley is a nice course, the JH club suffers from lack of funds, but is challenging enough to keep you interested.

For my honeymoon last June, we stayed at Dreams Punta Cana resort in the Dominican Republic and we really enjoyed it.

We liked the all-inclusive aspect so we didnt have to worry about how much each meal or drinks cost.

Golf was not included with this particular resort, but there are numerous all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean that come with unlimited golf.

We did leave the resort a few times for excursions and for when I golfed and I felt safe overall.

Here is a recap of the round of golf I did while the wife stayed back at the resort and had a spa day.

My wife and I have been looking for a place to go on our honeymoon (we've been married for two years), so I pretty much research every resort someone mentions. This place looks awesome, but I do see that kids are allowed which would generally nix it off our list.  We've done a few all-inclusive vacations, but always pick the adults-only resorts.

Did people really bring their kids, and how was your experience in relation given you were on your honeymoon?

We went in June, and we didn't really notice many kids at all, and the few kids that we did see didn't distract from the experience at all. Most of the people at the resort were couples like us on honeymoons. Met another couple our age who were also on their honeymoon and the guy was a former D1 college golfer in North or South Carolina so we had some good golf conversations.

Any of the kids we did see were in the designated kids areas.

The pool and beach areas were both huge so it wasn't hard to find a quiet area.

There were a good variety of food choices, even the buffet was solid, a bunch of different made to order options including sandwiches, fresh squeezed juices, crepes, omelets, etc.

We are planning on going to another Dreams resort for our next Caribbean vacation, leaning towards their Costa Rica location next time.

We have recommended the resort to everyone that asks about it, we had a blast.

If you have any other questions or want to see more pictures let me know I can PM you

    • Day 16: range night! Worked on long game for about 40 minutes, with a good solid 20 minute focus on my priority piece. Things improving there. Bookended that with some wedge and driver work. Finished up with about 30 minutes of short game. Working on distance control and all types of shots and lies. Short game is probably as good as it has ever been.
    • You should be able to install it yourself, honestly. You could easily blow it on and use some one-sided duct tape or something so it stays in place. That's what I've done with one of my grips.
    • Day 22 (12 July 26) - worked on putting tempo today using metronome for accurate tempo.
    • Hi all, My Edel putter seems to have developed a rattle.  I don't think it's a big deal, as I mostly hear it when I'm tapping down ball marks on greens.  However, I am debating getting it fixed, especially as I intend to play a lot of golf in August and September, and to continue playing regularly after that of course too.  My issue is I think fixing it would entail the fixer (golf shop repair station?) removing the grip and, presumably, applying a new one.  My problem is two-fold.   First, I like the grip on it, although after eleven years, maybe it's worth replacing.   The bigger (second) issue is getting the grip.  I don't like the flat-fronted putter grips anymore.  I have the round one on my putter, and I suppose I could buy one from Edel's website, but would a golf shop install a grip I bought elsewhere and brought in?  Or could they order one if Edel is not a supplier of theirs?  I don't recall ever seeing any Edel products in a Roger Dunn or PGA Superstore, although the era when I would go to a store and browse has long since ended (for better or worse).  I'd also wonder what the timetable is, as I'm leaving for a seven week trip in under three weeks. Any suggestions on what to do would be very welcome, whether about the rattle or the grip, together or independently.  Thank you!
    • I'm glad to know that picking up grass and letting it go doesn't help.  It felt like it shouldn't, but I'm glad to hear there's a good reason why.  It makes sense that wind is different higher up than it is near the surface. For a while, I was in the habit of checking the prevailing wind direction before playing.  That helped if I wasn't sure.  However, I still am not really sure whether something is a 5% wind or a 10% wind (and, of course, I know that a "helping" wind helps about half as much as the same wind hurting).   One of these days, I'll learn how to figure out what to do differently if the prevailing wind is 10mph vs 20 mph.
