I wouldn't want to watch it.

Your point?

My point is obvious.

OK, he was playing as an amateur on a sponsor's exemption in a PGA Tour event. Or was he?  It's not clear.

He was playing "pro golf" and said much of measuring his game against the pros. So is he a pro?  Did he keep his am status?  I wouldn't know, because it is not interesting to me.

He also finished dead last.

And I'm still 100% right about what I prefer to watch.

Whether he played as a pro or an am is really not relevant.  Mickelson won a 'pro' event as an amateur.  The point is, Romo was there as a novelty to draw a crowd - not as a serious competitor and not as a person making or trying to make a living playing golf.  Some people are OK with that, some feel like it just turns the event into a spectacle.  I'm in the latter group.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Rich - in name only

Spectacles get headlines, spectacles sell tickets, spectacles make money. Like it or not, the PGA Tour is a business and businesses need to make money. The sponsors of these tournaments are businesses as well and need to use these tournaments as advertising if no one watches the Tour loses a sponsor. What that means is when you have a opposite field event you need to figure out a way to get someone, ANYONE, to watch it. If that offends you so much don't watch, but for every purist like yourself and @3jacker who tune out there will be 1000+ that watch just because he is there.

    • So no joke, last evening post work nine must have been the craziest side I've ever played: Bogey, double, double, par, birdie, birdie, birdie, double, birdie. Two gimme birdies, one 15 footer and one bonus bomb from prolly 35 feet on no. 9. Full disclosure, it's a super easy course when greens are running at an 8 with easy welcoming pins. Still, a couple of firsts there. Driver freed me up starting the fourth hole. Anyway, driver notes: 1) anti left left hand grip. 2) no structural bind on hands/grip. 3) left shoulder HAS to get up to chin with humerus completely detached from chest and shoulder socket (feel) Big game tomorrow, aiming to break 80.
