I've been struggling to score in the mid 90s for years. Today everything seemed to click and I shot a righteous 82 on a local part 71 course.

I really hope today wasn't a fluke and I can start scoring under 90 consistently.

Hey man congratulations. I’d love to score an 82 one day lol

hope you continue to have success on the course, do you feel like you did anything particularly well or just had an overall good game?

I've always sprayed my driver all over the place. Pull-hooks and hard slices were the norm. Yesterday I started locking my left elbow, almost hyper extending it on the setup (I'm right handed), and I hit about 12 fairways and hit the ball long (for me that's about 250 yards).

I'm gonna try it again next weekend and see if I can get close to reproducing another sub-90 score.

Awesome!  It's great when you make an adjustment that yields positive results. I have a hand written note in my tees markers, divot tool pouch that reminds me of 3 key swing attributes that help my game.

Callaway Razr-Fit 8.5 Driver | Callaway GBB Warbird 3W | PingEye 2 Irons (2-PW) | McGregor Jack Nicklaus SW | Ping B61 Putter

Congratulations. Enjoy it. Just don't let those expectations run away with you. Often there is a very harsh and swift reality check in that very next round.

For what it's worth, I spent about 10+ years battling the two way miss, and the one biggest thing that helped was setup, standing further away from the ball. In turn, it feels almost as if I'm hyper extending my left arm, as well as leaning over more. It felt quite extreme at first. The image in my head of what I think I look like doesn't match what I actually look like (my arms are hanging below my shoulder sockets, maybe outwards a tiny bit, and my hands are roughly below my chin-- but it feels like my arms are stretched way outwards and my hands are outside my head), so I wonder if you've had the same issue? It's made a dramatic difference to my ball striking, particularly with the longer clubs.

Now when I go to the range, I notice people standing too close to the ball, too upright, all the time. I think Tom Watson said you can't stand too close to the ball... that's absolute nonsense and that advice hurt me for years.

And congrats on your round. Knocking off the two-way miss and picking up a few more fairways (as well as getting some added distance) can take off significant strokes depending on how bad your misses were. Two summers ago was probably my peak bad driving, and I was routinely losing 4 or 5 drives a round (plus a lot of punching out of the woods back into the fairway), and hitting fairways few and far between. OB first drive... OB provisional/third stroke... happened at least once a round. If you're shooting mid-90s with a two way miss off the tee, shooting in the 80s routinely isn't a far cry at all, IMO.

    • That was a good watch. When I started working on pelvis in the backswing. I thought, this sounds contradictory to those leg straightening threads on the site. Erik has already done a correction. Then the last lesson we went more down the route of feeling the right knee gains flex. It doesn’t, but the feeling keeps my knee position in a good range. Also, I just realized how much extra work my right hip needed to do to stabilize the body with the proper weight shift. Those glute and hip stabilizers got worked. 🤣 I wish this evolution in the golf instruction happened 20 years ago! 😭
    • I've been Playing Golf for: 40 yrs My current handicap index or average score is: 4.0 factor My typical ball flight is: Straight however sometimes slight draw. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: squirt to the right due to to much arm not enough turn. • The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
