Just wanted to share my excitement with everyone. I am new to golf this year, bought a used set of Adam's cb3 irons off Ebay earlier this year. I decided I wanted to upgrade the grips so I ordered some Winn dri-tac midsize grips. I figured this would be a easy DIY project for me to complete. I watched a few YouTube videos and completed the job this morning! It was a easy task to complete, grips look great can't wait to test them out. My main reason for sharing this post is if you are a beginner like myself I recommend doing some small projects like replacing grips yourself. I know it isn't a tough task but I feel a little more pride and confidence in my clubs knowing I am the one who did the work.

Happy golfing!

Welcome to TST and good work on replacing your grips.
While you indicate it was to inform other beginners as an easy task, you should provide details of the process.

While there are many threads and posts about grip replacement procedures and technic on the site,
it's best to share your ideas for others.

Then others would offer suggestions for all to read. ;-)

Congratulations! Learning to replace my own grips is one of the best decisions I have made in my golf life. I only use Golf Pride 360 grips so I don’t have to worry about aligning the grip to the clubface. I just worry about the grip not being twisted.

Not to start an argument... did you use tape/solvent or air?

John

I used tape/solvent. Didn't have and problem with grip sticking. The brand solvent was wedgeguys I believe. Came in a kit I bought on Amazon. Used a lot of solvent the first couple grips, after seeing how easy they were sliding on I switched to just filling the grip halfway shaking it and pouring it over the tape.

Thanks for response here are the steps I took,

1) I ordered a kit off Amazon which included tape, solvent, rubber clamp that fits around shaft to place in vice and a j-blade. The J blade was a huge help, for those not familiar it is a like a razor blade except shaped like a J. The curve prevents you from cutting yourself if you slip while removing old grip.

2) I removed old grips using the j- blade.

3) remove old double sided tape, the first couple clubs I used a utility blade to scrape the tape off. This took some time and left some glue residue. I found if I used the j- blade to score the tape the length of the shaft and then used my fingers to peel it up I could get it off in bigger pieces. This left no residue behind and was easier then scraping.

4) apply double sided tape to shaft leaving a bit of over hang to tuck into hollow end of shaft.

5) add solvent, I started by pouring solvent over the tape and then filling new grip with solvent and shaking. I would then pour the solvent in the grip over the tape and slide grip on shaft. After a couple grips I found I didn't need as much solvent so I skipped pouring some on tape instead just filled grip halfway shake and pour out excess over tape.

6) take shaft out of vice tap end of club on ground to ensure grip is fully seated. I then checked for proper alignment by taking my normal grip and stance and made any adjustment to grip by twisting it since it was still wet and moveable.

I started golfing last year....

I replaced my grips as well. I like the consistency of the same feel/grip throughout the bag.

My girlfriend golfs as well. I replaced all of her grips.

I also taught my younger cousin how to re-grip his clubs earlier this year.

I use the solvent/tape technique - although reading some threads, I'm curious about the Pure grips with no tape or solvent.

    • Thank you.  I'll cross it off the list since it isn't going to achieve what I want.
    • While it does turn out that both Tiger and Phil are less squeaky clean than I previously believed, I don't think golf quite has the worst in professional sports.  Or maybe they're better at image management.   Obviously I'm not fond of Phil's issue we're discussing in this thread (or his involvement with LIV) or Tiger's choices of how to drive.  I used to really like Dustin Johnson and, even before the LIV situation, we started to hear rumors that he bought more snow than Seward, although I don't think those stories were ever substantiated.  Meanwhile, I did think of Anthony Kim as the "good, bad boy" of the tour for a while fifteen years ago because of his party persona -- and if it turns out the worst he did was show up hung over to play (barring what one thinks of LIV), that's pretty good.  And I'm still happy he found a way to get his life clean. If we contrast that with some other sports I enjoy, I'm sure we could find a nice long list of NFL players that, at one point in my life, I was quite fond of, we get far worse disappointments (to put it mildly).
    • Answering that properly would land me in hot water, so I'm not going to. I don't think that many people would do that. I think that in certain circumstances many people would be willing to overlook someone doing that. But I was really referring to what I assumed was Tiger's transgressions (cheating on his wife) not Phil's.
    • No! Is a large part of the human population selfish, apathetic and cuts corners in the name of self-preservation 'more than they would like to admit', yes. Degenerate, scum, etc?.. no!! Most humans/men would not grope a woman like Phil is accused of doing (I think he absolutely did). That is scum. I mean what % of men do you think would do that? Seriously??
    • I don't think that is true at all. That is off-topic here, I think.
