Quick question on wedge gaps: I play a 50 deg Gap, 56 deg SW, 60 deg Lob.  My ‘usual’ distances with these are 100m, 90m, 80m (yes I play metric golf).  Those distances with the Gap and SW are consistent, but often I’m finding I come up short (70m) with the lobber.  Thinking about putting a 58deg in the bag to bridge this gap, but my question is, will the 2 deg loft difference between a 58 and a 60 really give that much of a distance difference to justify a new toy?  (note those distances are carry distance, excluding roll or backspin).

Any feedback appreciated, cheers all.

That's fairly common. A lot of people don't take full swings with their high lofted wedges because they can be inconsistent.

My suggestion is to learn to choke down on the grip, hit 3/4 and other partial wedge shots.

I have a 46, 52 and 60.  I bridge the gaps by opening up the lower lofted clubs.

Billchao hit the nail on the head. I hit full shots with my pitching wedge as well as my gap (approach) wedge all the time. My sand and lob wedge, however, are relegated to partial shots, bunkers and use around the green. When I look at my Arccos numbers I get PW - 137, AW - 125, SW - 71, LW - 71. Which just shows I hit a lot of partial shots with SW and LW. Interestingly, my longest shot with the SW is actually 74 yards, my longs with the LW is 79 yards. But again, I never take full swings with either of those clubs.

My opinion is that it is a lot easier to learn to flight your PW and GW to shorter flag positions. Then only use the SW and LW in true short game situations.

Opinions are like rear ends; Everyone has one, most people think everyone else's stinks.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

You can always have your existing 60 strengthened. Unless you planned to add a 58 and still keep the 60. Strengthening will result in less bounce so keep that in mind. But this may be okay with the firm conditions here in San Diego. ADS in San Marcos are in the process of building my clubs. They have a good reputation if you need your 60 tweaked.

My current setup is a 50/56/60 off a 45 PW. And I have a slightly larger than desired gap between my 50 and 56. However, I don't use my 60 for full swings.

My new setup will be 46 PW (PXG Gen 1). So I ended up going 52/56/60 wedges (PXG 311). These wedges will be bent 1 degree strong. So I will be at 46/51/55/59. And a little less bounce on all my wedges will be desired for me.

    • This is the first time I have played in this league but here is an interesting local rule they use. You are allowed to move your ball one score card length in either direction to improve your lie. Scorecard has to be in the folded position though. I love beachside golf. The other rule is you got to walk unless you have a handicap placard.
    • PGAT is all about Scottie right now and rightfully so. The PGAT has it's star right now and some potential good guys hoping Scottie takes some time off.  The LIV guys are of the radar until the PGA. There will be the Rory/ Hovland rumors to keep the fire smoldering until then.  You will probably get your wish as time moves on. What I like most about LIV is they are funded by a regime that has numerous human rights violations and the players don't seem to care. The fans certainly don't seem to mind. I admit, I went to LIV Miami to check it out, it wasn't empty.  I didn't see anyone protesting.

    • Hmmm, seems odd. I have ordered several things from them and have never had an issue, so I'm confident it will be resolved. I'm sending the watch back, I don't care for it, Ill just use the H4. There's nothing technically wrong with it, I just don't like it.
    • Actually, I'm in a different league this year. That was at New Albany Golf Links.
