Hi,

How do I go about scoring my first round of golf. What is the maximum amount of strokes I can record on a single hole? I will be playing my 1st game and I don't have a Handicap yet.

Welcome to The Sand Trap. If it is your first round, I would just play for fun without the pressure of scoring. Just play at a decent pace regardless of the bad shots.

When I take someone out who is new, I also try to remove the pressure from them and move the ball out of nasty rough and bad lies. They are learning. There is no need to make them struggle more.

Just play and have fun. And do it in a normal tempo 🙂

doesn’t matter if you get a 12 on a hole, but if it’s crowded or if you are playing with someone just pick up the ball and move to the next hole after 10 or so.

Welcome to TST.   Is this your first round or your first round in a competition?  As @boogielicious stated, have fun.   It's more important to enjoy yourself than worry about numbers.

It's too early to worry about your score.  Relax and enjoy the course.

In der bag:
Cleveland Hi-Bore driver, Maltby 5 wood, Maltby hybrid, Maltby irons and wedges (23 to 50) Vokey 59/07, Cleveland Niblick (LH-42), and a Maltby mallet putter.                                                                                                                                                 "When the going gets tough...it's tough to get going."

No need to worry about handicap at all until you are ready to play in competitions. That's really all the handicap is used for.

As someone that distinctly remembers starting golf later in life, I'd say have goals but keep very limited when you start. @Killa suggested picking up at 10. I'd recommend playing the easiest course you can find and making the pick-up number 8.

At least to start, consider it an unqualified success anytime you hole out, because it really is.

I still remember my first round and still have the card.  114 was the score.  Boy was I horrible but I had a ton of fun and was bitten by the Golf Bug!

As others have said, have fun and don't worry too much about the score.

Pick up after 8 if you are struggling on a hole, if you go OB just drop a ball close to where it went out of bounds and most of all play ready golf.

This means whoever is ready, shoot!  Not you won last hole, you have honors, you are farther away so you putt first.  If you are at your ball, hit it and enjoy the day.

Let us know how you made out.
