The heating system must be real good in that dome you're wearing short sleeves and shorts? Lol.

Oh it’s nice, it’s too hot in there to wear pants. They’d be soaked in sweat.

The only downside is that they’ll shut it down soon - and I will be sad

Today’s Session 12-10-20 (before lockdown)

I was very tied today, but I think this was the last session for a while (due to potential shutdowns). I was making really good progress and wanted to cement the things I’ve been working on.

GOALS:

  1. Internal rotation of trail hip
  2. Wide backswing

7i Swings

Goal 1: Trail leg stuff

9BD6CEF2-90C1-41AB-A9F3-651C84772D2D.jpeg.495baa4daed51d6904b6ae5ff25cc3ad.jpeg

I think this is very good.

  • HORIZONTAL: It looks like everything is going back “against that trail leg”
  • VERTICAL: It looks like I’m loaded “up into the groin”

Goal 2: Wide Backswing

A89C473C-C13D-44D1-B7E2-392A077CB48F.jpeg.a3bdca7a92c416679ac8e7191afd4af2.jpeg

Looks wide to me

Today’s Session 1-4-21 (Post Lockdown)

Goals:

  1. Trail leg stuff (internal rotation of trail hip)
  2. Wide backswing
  3. See how permanent my changes actually are

7i Swings

Goal 1: Internal rotation of trail hip

C00D0289-0EC8-43D9-A3B0-999251551033.jpeg.9fee6fba6578802075dc0b96cdbee423.jpeg

I think this is pretty good. I guess the trail knee could be facing the camera a tad more (FO View)

Goal 2: Wide Backswing

0628DAC7-B54F-4186-80F2-5DB249A99555.jpeg.cfb63a2a5fc9ce6d1820b94f48835a7b.jpeg
I think this was also okay. Looks nice and wide without going back too far.

Goal 3: Permanent Change?

I did mini drills everyday of the forced layoff. It was kind of easy to make the moves today (especially after a layoff)

The changes seem to have stuck. Now, I only hope I made the correct changes -lol

Final note: There wasn’t much lateral movement in transition (leaning tower) Dunno if good, bad. Whatever, we will see

Golf Lesson 1-13-21

I successfully got through my previous lesson (mostly trail leg stuff) and was having some trouble coming OTT with a more restricted turn, shorter backswing, etc.

FIRST: Add Flow

9552C29B-20CC-4C50-A36B-E1FBD6BCDEDA.jpeg.2d88ff9eb1b1ba06bc332587823164e7.jpeg

Must add 2” of sway to hips at takeaway. (Going back to flow stuff now that my trail knee is behaving)

NEXT: OVER THE TOP FIX (2 part drill)

9968F4C2-5E85-4ADE-B6C7-7F891E7615A6.jpeg.1cd63494d9b8cb9f150dddb896549b18.jpeg
I must use my hands and arms to move the club from P4-P5ish.

  • The club moves down with a “arms only” feel
  • The body does not crunch to move the club
  • The forearms do not roll to help shallow
  • There is force applied by both hands. Hard to explain...It feels like the club remains in a laid off position from after P4 to just after P5 (Look at picture on right -club drops at that angle)

2ND PART OF DRILL

From deeper position at P5-ish, I can pivot through easily.

B10B0658-18C1-4628-825D-8520C13F19EE.jpeg.8556f1a778748aef48fd60029ef8c29d.jpeg

  • I must not “throw right hand” from P5.
  • Post “up” with ribs and core

This is more what will be success in full swings. Other pics were from drill

Below are some videos from 1-15-21 and 1-16-21

Both sessions were 95% drills. I did video a slow swing just to see how it would look (last 2 swings).

Today’s Session 1-17-21

GOALS:

  1. Flow: Bump trail hip during takeaway, but keep trail knee facing forward.
  2. Stay deep in transition, using arms
  3. (Part 2 of drill) Don’t flip with right hand, post up and pivot

7i Swing. Could not get FO video today, dome was too busy

I did the drill with nearly every ball. I tried to really do a good job with the trail leg. Sway 2” sideways and keep that trail knee facing straight.

Yesterday’s Session  1-18-21

GOALS:

  1. LOWER BODY: Flow, internal rotation of trail hip
  2. TRANSITION: Drop arms down and deep
  3. P5 - FINISH: Do not use right hand to help club, use body pivot

3/4 of session was 2 part drill. 1/4 slow swings

7i Drill

7i SLOW SWINGS

GOAL 1: Lower Body

72A7342E-17FB-4F07-8C88-3BD66F8D2D65.jpeg.da24eba60311fba117fbe045214ef644.jpeg
I achieved my 2” of lateral hip bump, and kept my trail knee facing FO camera. Good

GOAL 2 and 3: Drop arms in transition and pivot through follow through.

9FFC4AF0-B7FC-4393-AB5C-20A742FA202C.jpeg.81000cbab5b48ad76c1d4cb2a2dc35ad.jpeg

I did my drill with a lot of focus. I also think I did a better job of not flipping my right hand at it after P5

Only minor issue was the feeling I hit down and across- like a slicer. . Unsure, maybe because club is so deep? I can’t shake the feeling I need to pivot more “up” instead of “down-left”

Due to dome hours, I cannot have a practice session until the weekend. I will continue mapping at home in the mirror.

Let the clubhead fall behind you more (or make it), and then turn hard through.

Today’s Session 2-11-21

Goals:

  1. TAKEAWAY: Bump hips 2”, then internally rotate trail hip.
  2. WIDE BACKSWING: Wide arms
  3. TRANSITION: Downswing hand-path = down (top priority piece)

7i Swings:

60-70% Speed

Hands Drop Drill

Face-on. Pretty high speed on this one.

BACKSWING GOALS:

  • Need more hip sway at takeaway
  • Internal rotation of trail hip is good
  • happy with arm extension at P2
  • Swing could be wider and less high at P4 (it would help drop hands in transition)

Transition: Downward hand-path.

D15A58B5-462B-4776-A189-5F006129183E.jpeg.64225e7b737ed448f6eec195e1c1cd48.jpeg

  • Not the prettiest P4 (slower swings can look odd- not a major concern, this time)
  • Hands did drop down, so it is success of some kind.

I have added leaning tower to my drills and mapping as I have been losing it - stopping at the top will do that.

I have been doing almost only drills = 90% swings.

I separate my focus between drills. Most are hands dropping. 70%

5% are merging pieces together.

It is not ready for full speed yet.

Today’s Session 2-12-21

Goals:

  1. TAKEAWAY: Have trail hip sway 2”, then have internal rotation of trail hip
  2. BACKSWING: Wider and less high
  3. TRANSITION: Handpath = down (main priority)

7i Swings

Drill

60% Speed

I made sure that I swayed 2” to start swing. it was too busy to get a FO.

Still trying to drop hands more. Hands need to go more down and less out. I’m doing drills, and mixing speeds trying to get a little more toward the edge of failure.

No, what you did in the second video is fine. Now, if you're saying that when you speed it up it doesn't do that, that's another thing. But if it's that, it's good.

When I speed it up, the hands still track too horizontal. I wasn’t very specific there, my bad.

it’s good to know the handpath is success in the full swing above. It’s helpful do have a “moving example” I’m gettin’ there!

Yesterday’s Session 2-13-21

Goals:

  1. TAKEAWAY: Hips sway 2” then internal rotation of trail hip
  2. BACKSWING: Wide / shorter
  3. TRANSITION: handpath = down (priority piece)

7i Swings.

Please excuse camera angle, upper deck has a bar that is right in the wrong place.

Full speed swings this time!

GOAL 1 & 2 Backswing stuff:

1B8B93CD-C5CD-4117-B330-1AE6DAD82062.jpeg.d7019c676fe2403efc09ed74824aff8e.jpeg

  • The hips bump and flow is initiated (should they bump more?)
  • Trail hip is working properly: Trail knee is facing FO camera.
  • Good backswing width

Goal 3: Downward Handpath from P4-P6

5201353E-A4FA-4CD3-BCD6-DA243875EFA1.jpeg.bc058df164958f1b0ef181f7f742aed4.jpeg
Hands are definitely tracking down. This is the first time I’ve been able to do this at speed.

Most swings in session were slow or drills

Side note:

Not worried about early extension / ugly impact at full speed....even if it drives me crazy!

Must get the hands dropping with much less effort before I move on to that.

Good session.

Goals:

  1. TAKEAWAY: Bump hips 2”, then internal rotation of trail hip
  2. BACKSWING: Wider and shorter
  3. TRANSITION: Hand-path = down
  4. IMPACT: Less flip, more pivot

7i Swing. 80% Speed. Could not get hand-path success at higher speeds today

I did a lot of stop drills (to help with impact) and pump drills today

Hand-path

  • Would prefer club to be less deep at P4
  • Hands are moving down at 80% speed

Impact:

Today’s Session 2-19-21

Goals:

  1. TAKEAWAY: 2” sway of hips followed by internal rotation of trail hip. Wide with arms
  2. BACKSWING: Wider and shorter
  3. TRANSITION (P4-P6): Hand-path = down

7i Swings

I started a new job this week and haven’t really practiced since Monday.
Today’s purpose was to get back in the grove in order to have better sessions over the weekend.
Also was stuck on the top row, excuse the poor DTL angle.

Goals 1/2: Takeaway and Backswing

6AA6EFF9-6845-406B-841B-FDCC274E4155.jpeg.5a2a137e6cdad67bf65bfeb7c3e6c46d.jpeg

  • I found that I wasn’t turning my shoulders enough during takeaway. I was faking it with too much arms. The feeling is “left shoulder under”
  • Trail knee could be facing the (FO) camera more. Will map this before next session

Goal 3: Downswing Hand-path

5CE7EB6C-24E4-48E5-879E-D26A623C2481.jpeg.356589f4716b305cc5ae04ab84652c17.jpeg

  • Hands moved down...ok. Must get better.
  • I will keep working on dropping hands in transition

Today’s Session 2-20-21

GOALS:

  1. TAKEAWAY: Bump hips 2”, then internal rotation of trail hip (keep trail knee, femur facing straight)
  2. BACKSWING: Wide takeaway. Use lead shoulder to initiate turn. Keep arms wide.
  3. TRANSITION: Hand-path = down from P4-P6

7i Swings

DTL: 75% Speed

FO: Full Speed

P1-P2

0E9F6070-16A3-424C-B3D6-EFD1DB224C4E.jpeg.0c24afd4a5029ecf181103977823e754.jpeg
Nice hip bump, wide arms, nice shoulder turn. This is success.

P4

Yesterday on left. New on right.

ABAF3658-A28D-42A3-A63F-DCC0ACD4F78C.jpeg.1968fc0f5235d00fed1878c42258b94d.jpeg

Internal rotation of trail hip: Better, I think

  • Looks to be more tension in trail hamstring. Good
  • Trail knee and femur is facing more toward the FO camera in today’s video

Goal 3: Hand-path = down from P4- P6

3A4045AE-ABDA-4776-869D-E928B00A0461.jpeg.c4bd33219bf04510de62bb1b142052ee.jpeg
This is success at 75%.

I need to keep grinding to get this move engrained before the season starts.

I’d also like to get this down so I can work on P6-P8...not holding my breath. These changes are taking me forever.

    • I don't think anyone will really care.   It's your call.  Just be consistent.
    • I agree, until we are watching the 18th hole in the dark or waiting for the champion to finish and it's been 5+ hours
    • Question for the group. The course I normally play at has 27 holes - 3 9s that they use to for 18 in the various combinations. Is it okay to declare* if I’m playing front or back when I play 9 on this course? I’m figuring I need to declare before I play a shot. *meaning just say to myself that this is the back 9. Curious what people think. Of course, my only holes left are 13 and 17, so I’m going to declare the back 9 for the rest of the year. Probably only one or two more rounds though.
    • This is my opinion as well. I would love to see the LPGA take the lead on this.    This.
    • I agree in general. The one way in which the viewer will notice the pace of play is just that "it's been an hour and Nelly Korda or Scottie Scheffler have only played four holes." Or if for some reason they show a lot of shots of players just standing around when they could be showing golf shots. But I think Andy Johnson said it most recently/best, playing fast is a skill, too. I would love for pro golfers to play faster. You'd see the players you want to see hit more shots in the same time than they do now. So I don't disagree with the pace of play stuff, and hope they can find ways to do it. Heck, the LPGA should leap at the chance to differentiate itself in this way, IMO. So: I stand by what I said in that the TV viewer really doesn't notice much about pace of play. It's rare when they do. I support increasing the pace of play wholeheartedly. But my top five reasons don't include TV ratings or viewership.
