Are Honma clubs actually good or is this going to be like Bubba going to Volvik balls?

I think it would be crazy of Justin NOT to switch considering the deal that Steinberg will get for Justin.  Money talks.

Those deals pale in comparison to what they can earn on the golf course.

History is littered with guys who switched equipment companies and struggled afterward.

I would be shocked if he hasn't already had the new clubs fitted for him and if he hasn't already played with them and found them to be as good as the clubs he now plays with.  Do you think he would be that foolish?

Did I say anything like that?

What I said remains true: history is littered with players who have switched equipment companies and seen their games drop off the cliff.

I think it was implied in your statement.  Keep in mind that players (by the scores) drop off the cliff without changing clubs.  I am betting that the new clubs will give him the same exact feel that he has with his present clubs.  These people aren't stupid.

Not really true. McIlroy, DJ, Koepka, Rose… etc. are all pretty consistently in the top ten in the OWGR.

And yet… "history is littered with players who have switched equipment companies and seen their games drop off the cliff."

Look at Bubba Watson switching to Volvik only a few years ago.

C'mon, man, you're making assumptions AND ignoring history.

No.

Hell, the article you cited talks about how Rory's transition to Nike came with more than a few speed bumps.

I'm not saying Justin Rose is going to have any issues, but he just won $10M playing TaylorMade equipment, and Honma isn't exactly widely used among the PGA Tour's best.

My point is your point!  Rory changed clubs, made a lot more money doing so, and is still one of the top players in the world.  So that's why I don't think Justin Rose has much to worry about.  To your point:  This is the first time I've heard of Honma clubs.

He struggled in his switch to Nike.

Fair enough.  He struggled for a while and then got used to them.  Spieth DIDN'T change clubs and he didn't even make East Lake.  That's golf.  Look at Hunter Mahan.  Did he change clubs?

Whoever heard of Honda when they first came out?

Honda didn’t cost 30,000 and have gold plating. 😁

I never argued the opposite. I give up.

Hunter got married and distracted. Said it himself.

Spieth had a down year.

None of that changes what I’ve said.

I’m done.

Do you think it was money based or spite based. He didn't seem to get the same treatment as tiger and Dustin.  I mean tiger and Dustin both have prototypes named for them. This is just speculation/ guessing on my part.  The Honma irons do look nice though.

    • Best drive I've ever hit: I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.
    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
    • Once, on a course in Middleton, Massachusetts that I used to love but has since closed down,  I hit the wrong half of a huge, UK style double green.  Then I made the hundred foot putt.  Tough to  forget that one.
