Hello,

I am new to the game and from  a sporting background. I am hooked and obsessed with getting better.

I was after opinions on where I should be at and what I can expect so I have have realistic expectations.

My first 3 score cards were 120 plus in Mid September 18.

I have now submitted 21 cards with a handicap of 28.8.

My best game was a 96. My last 4 games have been 101 -103.

Since hitting that 96 I am disappointed that I haven’t broken 100 again.

I feel my biggest issue is my driver which has this real late heavy fade majority of the time. So I find my self hitting out of trouble quite a bit.

Apoligies if I’ve used some wrong terminology etc.

but was kind of interested to see if once you break that 100 should it just keep happening?

I play with an old set of DCI 962s which were given to me and a Ping G400 driver which I got for a hundred bucks.

Welcome to The Sand Trap @Dan87. You have come to the right place to get help. We have a section where you can post your swing in video to get assistance. It is the Member Swings section. In the meantime, the thread below discussing the driver swing.

I played a set of 962’s for many years.  They’re a great iron and if in decent shape, should serve you well as you learn the game.  With any older, used clubs, you will want to ensure that the grips are serviceable.  If they’re slick, invest the money in having them replaced immediately.

Welcome to TST. Congratulations on breaking 100. That’s an ancomplishment and something to be happy about. Should it just keep happening? Well, welcome to golf! In short, no. Golf is hard. You Achieved your first milestone (or second?) and that’s that. Have you had any instruction? Do you practice? Sounds like you’ve caught the bug so I highly recommend you get some instruction. As @boogielicious stated you can get some great advice here with a swing thread and even just reading the instructional content. Golf is hard to self teach for most. Post a video and you’ll get on the right track. Cheers!

WELCOME to TST ...

First order of business would be reading about basic's.
Grip, Posture, Takeaway, Swing Path, Set Up, Alignment and Ball Position.
Also, consider basic lessons to get you headed in the right direction.

The game is about "keeping the ball on the play ground"
This means to hit it where you intend and aim.
Lessons will help accelerate the learning curve one needs to play golf.

If you travel down the road of becoming self taught or expect athletic skills as the means to become better, Good Luck !!!

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
