  1. Not sure if this would be better posted in the off topic forum but I'll just post it here for now. I'm currently an engineering (mechanical) student and will graduate within the next couple years so I'm starting think about what I might want to get into and looking at various options. Since I love golf I've been looking into opportunities in the golf industry in research and development of equipment. Just thought I would post here to see if anyone has any experience or knowledge in the area or can point me to any resources.
  2. 72 holes, from dawn till dusk. Walked and carried all 4 rounds. Would do again, but probably not carrying my clubs. A push cart would be better. I'd love to have a course to myself one time with a cart and try some kind of marathon, play like 15 rounds.
  3. Titleist 975D
  4. I have played a few times with just 5 clubs. Putter, 52 deg, 7 iron, 4 iron, and 3 wood. With careful planning I can shoot pretty well, my best being 77. I normally play 13 clubs so 10 would be no problem. I'd get rid of 3i, LW, and another iron it doesn't matter, say 9i. Just have to set up the shots. In the long run though, I think it would cost me. Par 3s with set distances, and having a poor set up shot could cost a couple strokes.
  5. I have plenty of callouses but have never found them to be annoying. Wouldn't ever think to file them off...
  6. On backed up par-3s sometimes the only way to remain sane is to hit various chipshots into the divot repair bucket. As long as it's not a tournament who cares? The guy who told you to stop had probably encountered some idiots tearing up the turf or hitting people.
  7. My first time every shooting under par, I was 15 and playing with a friend who quit after the front 9. I shot par and I wanted to keep going so I headed out on the back alone. The 12th hole I caught up to an older man who was also playing solo and he asked if I just wanted to join him and I did. We're playing, and at about the same time I realize I have a legit chance to shoot in the 60s, he tells me he is on course to shoot his age (72) for the first time. We both bogied the last hole, me for a 68 and him for a 72. Very impressive and really cool to share a milestone like that with someone. One of my life goals in golf for sure, only 21 so yeah not gonna happen just yet. My grandfather has been close, shot 81 when he was 78.
  8. Have been hit multiple times. Twice in the face requiring stitches, but those were freak accidents. Usually when I'm playing it doesn't bother me too much if a ball lands near me unless it is obvious they are really dumb or hitting into me on purpose. I've been on par 5 greens before and had balls roll up next to me. Usually I'll mark it if it's in the way then when he comes up say "hey nice shot buddy" no need for hostility. Within reason I think it can be excused.
  9. Only use cart on cart only courses or when I'm playing with my grandfather. For me walking is a part of golfing.
  10. 67 (-4), easy course (69.1/116). Great ballstricking round, putter not so hot. Tied my GIR record with 17.
  11. Love to play skins and would do it every time if I had willing partners. Usually not, so maybe once every couple of weeks I can get a small stakes game together. Used to play pretty serious games before I moved that could really thicken or thin out the wallet.
  12. Sometimes depends on the shot if I'm hitting it low or high or whatever I am trying. In general I don't tee wedges or 9-iron. More comfortable I guess.
  13. Maybe he doesn't feel senior enough to deserve the US Senior Open Champion title.
  14. Play ProV1(x) mostly. I try to buy them in bulk either logos or used batches. I'm not one to buy a brand new box. Have tried the Penta and wil probably use that more once everyone else starts hitting them into the lake.
  15. I go out on the weekends a lot as a single and thus am paired up with high cappers all the time. I have no problem playing with them. I've had great fun and met many cool people that are great to play with. The only exception is lack of knowledge of etiquette and slow play, which tends to accompany them. I don't care how many shots you take, just be ready to hit before it is your turn. I've played with 30+ hcp guys who did a great job of this but have played with ~15 hcp guys who are terrible at it. Some people hit their shot then just zone out until it is their turn again. But as a general rule, don't care about the ability of the people I play with.
  16. Well let's see. Taking an educated guess, I would say that the worst a player could be to still be considered a golfer would carry a hcp of about 50. And a theoretically perfect golfer would be about a +54. That means a theoretically mediocre hcp is about +2. I'd suggest that a good golfer would be halfway between mediocre and perfect. So +28.
  17. I quit for 1.5-2 years out of disinterest/going to school. I went to school and didn't play at all during two school years, and only maybe 3 times total during two summers. Started playing again this summer, and was worried I wouldn't be able to hit anything. To my surprise in no time I was pretty much back to my old self. Shot a great round after ~6 months of not even looking at a golf club. Short game took maybe 3-4 rounds before I was comfortable again.
  18. Today, par-5 550. 260 to the flag, run a 3-wood up between the bunkers to within 3 inches. I will never get an albatross.
  19. +2 74, 3 doubles and lost 4 balls (2 in the water and 2 OB). Woulda coulda.
  20. Who here can play on the other side of the ball pretty well? I have tried it a couple times. Sort of a silly demonstration but amusing nonetheless. A while ago I played 9 holes with one of the pros at my course who is left handed and we traded clubs and held a friendly competition. I shot a 66 from the ladies tees and he managed a 54. I think he might have had an advantage though being right handed in everything but golf (Mickelson-esque). As goofy as it felt I think I could get used to it. I had a couple decent shots and putting was not that bad. Maybe 10 rounds I could get down to 100 on an easy course ~6000 yards. Supposedly Vijay Singh can play to a 6 cap left handed. I'd like to meet a scratch player who is just as good from either side. Anyone try it?
  21. Just going by memory but I think after you try to place it twice and it doesn't stay, then you can place it at the nearest place that it will, no closer to the hole.
  22. Like others posted, see if you can somehow keep your clubs at the course, then bike/walk/run/whatever. When I was 12-15 I talked to the pro at the course I played and he let me keep my clubs in a back room in the pro shop. I would ride my bike 6 miles to the course pretty much every day. Pretty lucky that the pro let me do that, great guy. Once I turned 16 I started working there.
  23. All driver just trying it cream it as far as I can and/or hit the ball picker.
  24. Drink the memories away! But really just analyze what you did wrong, and really pick on certain things that you can say for sure you won't do ever again (mental errors or whatever it may be). I also had an 86 last week after a solid 73 the day before. Mainly mental mistakes and getting into a bad attitude caused my plunder, so I'm learning from that and will be better prepared for future rounds.
  25. 275, bladed lob wedge.
