$5k for a full set of custom fitted clubs, not just irons or woods, doesn't bother me much at all. The fact that my local golf stores only carry the small bag of tee's (75 count) and want to charge $7.00 plus tax for it? That gets to me.

I don't like their 'solution'. The complaining players could simply play some rounds from the white tee's if they thought it was such an advantage.

Nah, I would rather see that land used to make a decent course with 3 set's of 9 holes (par 3, 4 and 5). What I am in favor of is courses that offer 5 par 5's for an 18 hole course. I like that setup best and mostly loathe courses with only 2 par 5's.

Wow... but have you considered ... http://www.amazon.com/Stop-Losing-Golf-Headcovers-Cover/dp/B000SBQ0JG

If it was me I would try to keep it as simple as possible. What comes to mind is a surface with a straight putt, a 2 degree slant and a 4 degree slant (using your parameters) all to 1 hole only. So the middle would be for straight puts and then one side would be for the 2 degree slant and the other for the 4 degree slant. The further you get away from the center line the more each putt will break which gives a wide variety of putts. I would also build a removable box the same height as the green to put on the lower left corner of the green. This way you can stand off the green and still be the same height as the green. Lastly I would add a chute from the cup to the back edge that would allow the balls to collect outside the back edge of the green.

Sometimes I find the Driver works well... seriously. There are so many variables that I can end up using a wide variety of clubs depending on the situation. Yes, sometimes that calls for playing the ball behind my back foot.

I am not sure a reasonable argument can be made for being up 3 shots with 7 to go is better than being up 5 shots with 9 to go. Statistically you are much better off up 5 with 9 holes to go. Up 5 with 9 to go you can lose .444 strokes per hole and still win by 1 Up 3 with 7 to go you can only lose .286 strokes per hole to win by 1

Spieth was up 5 with 9 to play wasn't he?

Maybe you can find a free copy of Links 2003. It came with a course designer.

How about property taxes? Only through rumor I heard a rinky dink 9 hole course around me had a $10k per month property tax bill. I'm not sure how accurate that is. I can only imagine what an 18 hole course with decent space pays per month around here. I swear one year I am going to try gauge as accurately as possible how much of what I make and spend goes to taxes. The only thing stopping me is knowing how depressing it would be to see that final total.

How do you orient your ball when you tee it up?
Grumpter replied to onthehunt526's topic in Golf Talk
Mostly I will try to line up the 'putting' line on the ball in the general direction I am aiming. It doesn't need to be perfect just give me a general idea of the direction. -
I had cleared the cookies and cache then closed out IE but it didn't change anything when I started IE after that. So I cleared everything a second time and then rebooted. That seems to have solved the issue. Strange.

When using IE11: On the main login popup the 'Remember me' and 'Sign in anonymously' boxes cannot be checked. So when I click the sign in button I am then directed to a new page where I can check both boxes but checking the 'Remember Me' box does not retain my information. I have to go through the full process every time I come back to the site. I cleared the browsing history/cache but still no luck. Firefox seems to remember the information just fine.

I don't see what is so strange about it. My guess is the players in your group are not long hitter by any stretch of the imagination and you don't have much experience outside your group. You might also be referring to 173 meters which would be about 190 yards. When it is cold I lose about 2 club lengths but others I have played with only seem to lose 1 to 1.5 clubs. Get out there and play with some lower handicaps and see for yourself. conditions make a big difference. One course I play the 17th hole is a par 3 about 210-215 yards (not meters) every so slightly uphill and into the wind. I have had to it driver on a particularly windy day. The next hole is in the opposite direction about 275 yards to the center of the green which I can sometimes reach with a Driver... without wind. I can't hit it that far every time but have done it on multiple occasions with and without wind.

In my experience it depends on the type of course you are playing. If I go to the local muni I tend to be one of the longer hitters. At the higher end courses I tend to be a bit above average but find a decent percentage of players that can hit as far or many that can hit longer. Since I play as a single, joining up with 2-somes or 3-somes, I get to play with a lot of different players. Anymore I may only get 5 or less drives a year that will reach the 300 yard mark and I played 125 rounds last year. Often at the 'lower' end courses a player will comment on one of my drives 'man, you just crushed that thing 300 yards'. I tell them 'doubtful but let's measure it with the GPS'. What many think is a 300 yard drive ends up being in the 250 to 275 yard range.

Biggest surprise you've gotten from looks to play?
Grumpter replied to johnclayton1982's topic in Golf Talk
I don't think I have ever gotten a big surprise since I see little correlation between how a person looks and how they play. -
I go through about 12 - 15 gloves in a 125 round year. Would love to find a place where I could buy them in a larger than 3 pack. I have seen 6 packs but not the brands I want.

Using idiomatic expression "money shot", faux pas or legit expression
Grumpter replied to Valleygolfer's topic in Golf Talk
I was in the kitchen when I heard him say it. I chuckled but didn't see the shot he was referring to. My guess it was either referring to a shot that was good for the sponsors (Tiger's ball hanging on the edge of the cup for a second, with the logo facing up, before falling into the cup) or a shot that advanced the player up the leaderboard (ie. more money)? -
I want them to go a step further. Rate each hole by tee which offers more choices. Some courses I avoid certain tees due to only a few holes. Given that there are usually only 3 sets of tees I might actually play on a course mixing and matching would offer a wide variety of combinations (816). With the computers most of carry around in our pocket this wouldn't be that terrible to implement.

Shopping for my return to golf
Grumpter replied to trapdodger's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
With 2 grand I would just go to a local store and hit everything that struck my fancy. You should be able to keep it under $2k fairly easily. I would probably opt for one of the older sets of irons in the $300-$400 range rather than paying for the 'latest and greatest'. -
I may watch a little via the internet during work. As long as I don't abuse it my boss is OK with it. During the weekend my tradition is to actually play golf rather than watch it. If I get home in time to see some of it fine but it is not a priority.

So yesterday I go direct to the courses website and book a 2-some for early Saturday with the hopes that a single or another twosome will fill out our group. This morning when I check the courses website the tee time is no longer there. Great, someone has filled out our group..... nope, it is showing as open on GolfNow but is completely gone from the courses website. I also notice the same thing with an earlier tee time. Something funky is going on so I sent an email to GolfNow and directly to the course. So, if you are a single or two-some you may find more times available on GolfNow than directly at the courses site. Personally I hate having to pay the GolfNow processing fee, unless I am getting a better deal there, but sometimes beggars can't be choosers.

Some courses may not like it. IMO it is no big deal to keep it off most tee boxes so I avoid bringing it on the boxes.

It seems to me stealthhwk may have been talking in more general terms and not directly about LSW. It's a valid concern. I have been signed up for junk I didn't want numerous times over the years. Glad to hear you don't subject people to that. The company I work for does the same thing. We don't subject people to junk they don't want.
