I did it Friday morning on a links style course. Completely unintentional. I was on the tee at 11, they were on the tee at 10, wasn't having a good day so far and the tension caused me to tighten up and toe the @#$!% out of my driver and I landed on the tee back of 10. I never even saw where the ball went, hit a provisional, and when I was headed to it after searching the right fairway/rough for my initial shot the guys pulling off the tee on 10 called to me that mine was on their box hahaha.

At least someone gave this guy some sound and helpful advice instead of a bunch of bitter complaints and gripes towards a guy who's obviously got some skill and is on his way but needs a bit of advice from some people who may have been in a similar situation before. He's new, he has no idea who's on this site and whether people can give him helpful advice or not.

Hahahaha, I love it. It's a commentary of at 1 out of every 3 of my drives.

Agreed, I have a longer hybrid in my bag right now that's very hit and miss. It's a 200 yard club when it's right, it's a 20 yard club when it's wrong and lately it's been wrong more than it's been right. I used to have a set of TM burner hybrids (4-5/21-24) and they were much easier to hit but honestly the gaps weren't enough to keep them vs my 4i so I went to a longer hybrid that is going to take more work.

Mine is to play to a single digit handicap and keep it. I started playing seriously and trying to actually learn the game a year ago. I was able to get it down to a 15.x this summer but then an injury at work changed my grip/swing and threw it all out of whack and I went back up to a 23. Well now I'm working with a new coach and my power is coming back, putting is ok, just need some consistency and I hope to achieve that this year. Stupid mistakes are costing me stroke, cut them down, gain consistency and watch it drop, my only goal.

For me it's probably 70-75%. Much less and I hit the ground like you because my lower body gets dead trying to be too gentle. Much more and I tend to let my right arm get away from my body and come out to in pretty bad resulting in at best a toe strike and at other times a brutal slice.

Your Favorite Putter Of All Time Is?
slodsm replied to bjwestner's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My Golo by far. I've also got a SC Studio Select Newport 2.0, Select Big Sur, NC Sub 30 type 20 and type 50, Yes! Sandy, Odyssey White Hot 2 balls, Nike Method Core MC3i, and others I can't even remember. The Golo is just my go to. I drain more putts with it without even thinking. I have a pendulum stroke with a putter and this thing is just so perfectly balanced for me, I look at the cup, line up my feet, stroke, drop.... And if it doesn't, it's within a foot of the cup. Distance control is perfect etc. I have had this putter for 5 months now and I bet I've had less than 5-6 3 putts with it. I absolutely love it. -
I bought all 11 of mine (I have a problem).

Crane is one of my favorites just because he seems to enjoy life so much. His youtube channel and facebook page are always full of stuff like this.

When I first started it was the only way I swung a club. Especially the driver. Now 9 out of 50 times that resulted in disaster but within 6 weeks of playing I hit the longest straightest drive of my life (still haven't beat it). Once I started lessons, I developed a smoother more repeatable swing and now I need to find a happy medium. My current swing is smooth and mostly accurate with mid/short irons but not impressive as in 145-150 7i. My one and only really hard swing that went where I wanted it with a driver was before I had a GPS/rangefinder. 287 from tee to green, I landed my ball 40+ yards into the fairway of the next green. Now I have more of a pitiful driver average that I won't discuss here due to embarrassment but at least I'm typically in the right fairway.

I have Golfshot GPS on my iPhone and a Bushnell V2. Love the golfshot for blind turns and keeping score/hdcp but for greens, the V2 can't be beat. My GIR has gone up significantly over the last month since I bought it.

It's a good game, I no longer play online because I got tired of paying for an Xbox gold membership though.

This. I am only a year into playing, my handicap varies from a 15.1 late summer to a 19.1 currently and it goes up and down as I brain dump simple things, fall apart, and then remember them and bring my game back down. Some days I look like I've been playing for years, others I look like I am a caveman who just picked up a club. The only thing any member of my club has ever said to me was "hey man, it happens to all of us from time to time just keep at it". In general, everyone I've met on the golf course has been extremely courteous and helpful. If you want to join, just join.

When will the Titleist 910 go down in price?
slodsm replied to shortstop20's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I ended up buying my 910 slightly used with a perfect crown, book, tool, and slight brush marks on the bottom for 170 shipped a little while back. Great driver actually and glad I bought it. I've never played Titleist woods, always TM or Nike but this one easily ties my favorite driver of all time and beats my Nike VRs, VR tour, etc but a good bit (for my swing). -
YES!, Nike Method Core, and Scotty Cameron Putters
slodsm replied to HarrisonJ23's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I know it's old now but since my last post I've added even more putters to my collection so I wanted to add a bit more of my personal thoughts to it. Scotty putters (for me) are hands down the best for my putting style. I have acquired a Scotty Big Sur and a Scotty Golo as well as another NC Sub 30 Type 50 and a Nike Method Core 3i. The NC and Nike putters are great putters, well made, look good etc but a milled putter like the Scotty or Yes! are the only two I can reliably putt with. It seems like the insert putters have "hot spots" in the face. I spent probably 2 hours yesterday just rolling putts with the Nike on the practice green and when I hit it the same every time it was working wonders but a slight mishit resulted in either a dead putt or a bullet the wayyyy overshot my target. With the milled putters and my stroke anywhere within a 1/2 inch of the sweet spot will result in a comparable distance which means more made putts. Line has never really been a problem for me (I have a practice green at home and probably roll 200 putts a day) but I've always had distance control problems. The milled Scotty putters make that less of a problem for me so I score lower when using them. Granted, a severe off center hit will still be punished significantly but it's a putter, you aren't swinging it hard enough to do that often so I stick with my milled putters. Some people have completely opposite results, these are just mine. -
My last two trips have been slow. It's normally not an issue at all at my club but the first day was a threesome playing at the speed of snails stampeding through peanut butter and they wouldn't let us through so on 10 I just drove past them cut across to 11 and started again and enjoyed the rest of my round. Yesterday was a whole other animal though and I was able to start on the back 9, by the time I got back around to 1 there were foursomes on every hole that I could see from the club house and I waited 10 minutes to be able to tee up as the group in front of my looked for their OOB tee shots so I packed it in and went home. I can play 18 pretty fast with my usual partner but I don't mind a 4 hour round if the course is crowded. When that four hour round starts looking like a 5.5 hour round I pack it in because my scores will suffer when I have to wait that long between shots and when I am playing badly, I'm not enjoying myself so what's the point.

Most durable golf glove?
slodsm replied to garybbq's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I'd check your grip too. I use FJ weathersof gloves and I've played the same one from August until yesterday. Still wasn't worn out, I'd just played in it so much it was stretched a bit and starting to wrinkle in the palm. It's still in my bag as a range only glove now. I play 10+ rounds a month so that glove had seen 35 rounds and probably 10,000 range balls. -
The only lies I improve are when they are on gravel or something right beside the cart path and I'm playing for fun. I'm not putting a huge ding in an expensive club over that so I'll bump it over a few feet and get after it. Other than that, play it where it lays.

Golf shoes, I slip when I swing hard with other shoes.

Jamie Sadlowski's destroys Golf Channel simulator!
slodsm replied to Valleygolfer's topic in Golf Talk
I was watching when it happened. I believe they said ball speed was 216, never made mention of club head speed but still..... He warned them, he's done it before. -
I have a Burner 2.0 4w that's 17.5* I carry when I'm using my Tmade gear. I switch woods and hybrids back and forth between Nike and TM and although the Nike 3w carries a bit further, the TM is easier to hit off the fairway (but I tend to get sky balls when I use it off the tee) and I switch them up depending on what course I'm playing and length I need.

I play down into the 30's. I don't wear a lot of clothing though as the movement keeps me warm enough. Usually an Under Armour base, a polo over it, and a ClimaProof jacket (none of which are thick). After that, just regular golf pants and shoes and one glove. When I'm on the first tee I feel a bit chilly but by the second my blood is pumping and I'm warm. By the 9th I'm usually out of the jacket and just wearing the base layer and shirt.

The Dan Plan - 10,000 Hours to Become a Pro Golfer (Dan McLaughlin)
slodsm replied to Jonnydanger81's topic in Golf Talk
Exactly what I'm saying. I am very coordinated and still don't believe I have the amount of small muscle control the repeat a swing to the nth degree over and over no matter how much I practice. Doesn't mean I'm not going to try over and over and over hahahaa, I just don't think I personally can do it. If it was about strength or speed alone I'd have no problems. I have benched in excess of 300 lbs when I was a gym rat and can still lift 40lbs over my body weight but strength alone isn't what it takes. -

I really believe some people just can't play golf. Can you get better, yes but to actually play at the level he wants I don't think everyone can do no matter the amount of practice. I've played a LOT of sports, I was good at a lot of them, I spent 12 years in the Marine Corps, I have advanced fairly far in various hand to hand programs, what I do for a living requires a lot of strength, a lot of coordination, and a small amount of either fearlessness or ignorance (people see it differently) but I strongly doubt I'll ever see scratch, even single digits and I put in a LOT of work. Not 10,000 hours but I'm willing to bet I put in 10 rounds a month and 15-20 hours practice a month on the chipping/putting green. If I can post low 80's on my home course from the tips (CR 71/129) then I will be absolutely thrilled 5 years from now. Practice will make him better but not tour better.
