I picked up a Nike Fly 5 wood from Rock Bottom Golf. Their selection is not actually that great. I guess they've already sold out the most popular shafts/options.

Yeah, I always fix my ball marks and usually fix a number of them on every green. It gives me a small bit of satisfaction knowing that I leave the course in a better condition than I found it. Normally I play the public county courses in my area. And, yeah, folks don't always fix their marks. But I noticed that when I got to some of the more upscale courses, their ball mark problems are as bad or worse. They ought to have better, more experienced golfers playing there, but there seem to be more unfixed marks.

And Gary Player did say that he was available to play for South Africa.

I'm sure they'll put you with someone. My brother and I played there last year, and he plays there on a regular basis, living on Long Island. We played it on a Friday. If I recall correctly we got to the course at 5 am that morning. We got the 3rd tee time of the day and they paired us with another twosome. It wasn't really that tough to get a tee time. It's not as busy as the other courses at Bethpage, I think because it's a difficult course and you have to walk. No carts allowed. But it was a great experience. Best course I've every played.

My son and I had a good time walking Woodmont CC to watch a couple hours of yesterday's sectional qualifying. We got to see Billy Hurley, who was the medalist and we followed local Dennis McCarthy who finished in a 3 way tie for 2nd and then made the Open in a playoff. At Woodmont the top 3 advanced, so one of the 2nd place finishers was left off.Also it was cool to walk such a nice course in the fairways and get so close to the players. I've had the app for a while but never actually used it to play with other people. I'm not great about scheduling tee times ahead of time. It's more like I got out on a whim (i.e. when the wife allows) and just play with random people.

Cool idea! I'm too far, but I see that there's a section near me in Rockville, MD on the same day. I might just go check it out.

Falls Road #6 is a long, uphill par 4. I'm usually happy to be anywhere in the vicinity of the green in 2. Yesterday, I hit a good drive 5 yards short of the 150 pole. The laser said the pin was 165 yards away, and it was behind a bunker. Normally I would aim to the right, to avoid the bunker, but I thought what the heck and went for the flag. I pured a 4 hybrid that landed just over the bunker and rolled past and right of the hole. Slight downhill, 10 foot putt that slid a little left. I aimed a cup right, and it just turned into the hole as it was coming to a stop. Birdie! Never birdied that hole before.

Being of Taiwanese descent, I have to give a shout out to TC Chen in the 1985 US Open. He had a 4 stroke lead until he double chipped on #5 to score a quadruple bogie. It's not the worst choke, but it sure was memorable.

I've got a ClicGear 3.5+ that I've been very happy with. It's very well built. Solid construction. My only issue with it is that it doesn't fold up that small. It's pretty bulky in the back of my car.

Yeah, I think I'm going to bail too. The weather and family things are making me think the better part of valor is to try again some other time.

I'm thinking about going to Golf Galaxy to pick up some rain gear.

Looks a bit nippy, what with the wind and the rain. But my son and I will be there are we walking or riding? It looks like you have to cross some streets, so it seems to be more of a riding course.

I'm biased, but I thought Carolina got called with a number of bogus, ricky-tack fouls in the first half. And in the second half they got called for a foul on a jump ball, then it turns around and Villanova got a jump ball on pretty much the same situation.

Woohoo! Eagle me! March 31, #8 at Northwest Park GC.

On Thursday I had my first eagle ever at Northwest Park GC in Wheaton, MD. On hole #8, it's a dogleg par 5 going up hill after the tee shot. I hit a decent driver, and decent hybrid. I measured 92 yards to the flag, up hill and into the wind, so I knocked down a 9 iron, which I normally figure to be 120-5 yards. I could only see the top of the flag, because of the hill, but my shot was on a good line. When I got up to the green I looked around and couldn't see my ball around the green or in the bunkers. Whenever that happens and I look in the hole, I never see my ball there and so I feel a little silly. But this time, on a lark, I had a look, and BOOM, there it was.

Cool! That's what I figured, with 3 tee times. I'd be happy to pay the normal rate for both of us.

We found out that my wife has to go out of town for work that weekend. Could my son play also on Saturday? If so, we'll be there. If that's not possible, then I'll have to stay home with him.

Hey Steven. I'm in Maryland too, but not all that close. I played once near Elkton, at the Chesapeake Bay GC. Not a bad course, although the conditions could have been better. Anyways, welcome to the Sand Trap!

Very cool. I played the Gold course there some years ago. Won at outing for 3 at a charity auction. Sadly at the time the Blue course was closed because they were preparing for the US Open. Still, it was a great experience. That was the best course I've played in the DC area, by far.
