40 grand! What a bargain! I'll take 2. Looks like they've adapted a motion capture system from the special effects business for golf. They have systems like that at research hospitals too, to study gait analysis and things like that.

That was JJ video funny. Harrison Ford was on Kimmel. You can read about it and find the video here: http://www.ew.com/article/2015/10/30/harrison-ford-star-wars-jimmy-kimmel “J.J. has made an incredible movie. You will not be disappointed at all. I promise you.”

I pay as I play. I wouldn't mind being a member of a club, but all the ones around here have six figure initiation fees.

I agree with @saevel25, the blue, ball-in-water one is the best.

Hey, Chris Riley is playing the same irons as me, Ping G30s. Not something I would have expected to see in a pro's bag.

How necessary are proper golf shoes?
davechen replied to cutchemist42's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Yup, I use the same hiking shoes. They're really comfortable. My only issues have been they can slip in wet, hilly conditions, and I wish I had the waterproof version. But they're much more comfortable than the golf shoes I used to wear. -

Sounds awesome! Got any pics? -
I just saw the trailer on the Monday Night Football half time show, and it's up on starwars.com now. Looks pretty good. Can't wait for December 18th.

Cool! Casey Grice is a Tar Heel! :)

I went up to Long Island to visit my brother, and we played Bethpage Black. Boy was that a long, tough course. 74.0/145. But it was also incredibly beautiful. Just a great experience. As far as easiest, well, my son and I regularly play several 9 hole executive courses in our area. A good chance to work on the short game.

Pretty subjective, but I think going by the most majors gives you a pretty good list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_men's_major_championships_winning_golfers 1 Nicklaus2 Woods3 HagenT4 HoganT4 Player6 WatsonT7 SarazenT7 PalmerT7 SneadT7 Bobby JonesT7 Harry Varden

OCD Behaviour at the Golf Range
davechen replied to gregsandiego's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
What other people do on the range doesn't really bother me, except the screaming shank headed my way. It is a bit odd to be face on with a lefty in the next stall, but I just try and keep my head down and focus on my ball. Unless it's my daughter, who is lefty. -
Yeah, that hip turn is something that I had worked on in previous Evolvr lessons. I guess the swaying has creeped back in. I'll have to work on it some more.

Hello again. This is the most recent video I sent in to Evolvr, 3 DTL and 3 FO swings. My main issue now is trying to get more of an inside-out swing to fix my occasional pull/fade. On my last video, Brian suggested laying another alignment club going off to the right and swing along that line. I wasn't still quite getting the hang of it, especially on the course. So after this video, he suggested the "closed face" drill, closing the face and the trying to start the ball off to the right. I went to the range tonight and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. Also he said my club was a bit steep at the top, so at the range I tried shallowing it. And I have to say, I was killing the ball. It felt great! I am hitting the ball so much better since starting the Evolvr lessons. Also I got Ping G30 irons this seasons, and I really love them. Part of me thinks about getting more player, less game improvement clubs, but I'm hitting these things really, really well right now.

I said 10% too. I don't love slow play, but it doesn't drive me nuts. And I tend not to play at the busiest times, weekend mornings.

I'm pretty sure they're all using graphite shafts. Wilson markets their stuff more at the low end though. So they're probably using lower quality materials and designs. My general view is that you get what you pay for. So there might be concerns about quality of workmanship or likelihood of breakage. But for a starter set, the Wilsons would probably work all right. If you get serious about the game, you'd probably be upgrading in the not too distant future anyways. The more expensive brands (Callaway, Taylor Made, Ping, etc) would probably not need upgrading as soon.

How do I change my profile pic? It was non-square, so it looks bad on the new forum. I looked around various menus but didn't see a way to change it.- 403 replies

Playing extraordinarily long courses
davechen replied to amoline's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Recently I played Bethpage Black, which was extraordinarily long. I'm not a long hitter, and we played from the whites, but that was still 6773 yards. There were a lot of long par 4's, over 400 yards, including one that was 457. For me, I just had to reset my expectations and accept that bogies would be a good score on a number of those holes. I'm a bogie golfer, and since it was such a long, hard course, I was just hoping to stay below 100. So I was happy with my 98. As it turned out, from a handicapping standpoint that was it was one of my best results. The slope of that course was crazy, 145, because it's so long. So my suggestion is to just accept that a course is long for all the players and not let it psych you out. -
45 on the front side at Falls Road GC. I'm not unhappy with the score, especially considering I made no putts. Nothing over a gimme. Hit 5 of 6 fairways and 2 of 3 par 3s. Then my son played his PGA Junior League match on the same course. He was dominant! He and his partner won 6 holes, lost 2 and tied 1. And in the scramble format they mostly used his shots. Very few came from his partner. He hit every fairway and all 3 par 3s. Well maybe one was on the fringe. But overall, he played great.

Man. If I could hit half that many fairways and greens, I'd be a happy camper.

Anybody getting a new iPhone? I've pre-ordered a 68 gig black 6s from AT&T;, renewing my 2 year contract. I wasn't sure whether to renew or do AT&T; Next or Apple's installment plan. Or I could have just bought the phone outright. But since I'm on a grandfathered unlimited plan, I thought I'd stick to what I've been doing.

Wow! The gold putters and Ping schwag look awesome!
