I don't have issues with the sun, but I wear the Nike sleeves not attached to the shirt. It actually keeps me pretty cool during my round in the New Mexico heat.

I like him. I don't think he's whiny, I think he puts a lot of pressure on himself and gets disappointed when he doesn't live up to his own expectations. When he gets a bad bounce, I don't think he's blaming anyone other than himself. If you want to see whiny, follow me on the course haha.

Worked a little more on getting forward and making solid contact. I don't feel it's been working well. I'm not hitting my distances and I can't figure out why. Looking at this Video, here is what I can tell.... Setup....Feet closed, shoulders open Top of Backswing, I try to be 90 degrees to my spine with my arms Down swing, I early extend or thrust my hips forward. My hands look on plane, but my club head looks outside, does this mean I need more lag?? Impact, I look hunched over and still have my hind end off the wall I'm sure there is much more, but this is what I can see with my untrained eye.

Welcome! to TST. I used to live on the South Shore. Played a few courses there. My favorites were Green Harbor, Widows Walk and Easton Country Club. Congrats on the 85. I've been playing for over 20, seriously for the past 4 or 5 and I've only broke 90 three times.

Two or three years ago I was playing a local course. The final hole was a par 5 with water in front. The fairway went up the left side of the water and attached to the green on the left. Next to that are hills that wrap around the green and the left side of the fairway. I was about 175 out hitting my third shot (duffed a three wood prior). I pushed a stinger left but it rode the hills down on the green within four inches. Tapped in for birdie. First time I birdied that hole.

As mentioned a few times, I think it's all about communication. I need an instructor to describe a feeling in the golf swing. Others learn different and need tools like the goofy swing shirt or other contraptions. I feel the first lesson should always be about setting up the best way to communicate with one another.

You are not alone. I wish I could do it in my downswing. I can bend it back 45 degrees just standing there, but for the life of me I can't get it into my swing the way I want. I end up shallowing my plane to get the trail arm the way I want. Have you tried starting with the first stretch he shows?

Good information. I took a lesson at a local Golf Tech and then stopped because of how they focused on getting me close to or on the average. Nothing felt right in my swing during the lesson. I'm not not athletic, but I know I don't compare and will never compare to these guys on tour. The lesson wasn't a waste though, he gave me some really good tips on hitting out of a bunker that have really helped my sand game. I haven't had to hit out of the same bunker twice since. The one number I do focus on is shoulder tilt in the backswing at the top, but not necessarily the degree of tilt. I focus on trying to get my shoulders/arms 90 degrees to my spine. I've been known to be very flat with the shoulder turn even though I have the proper spine angle at setup.

This is the part I struggle with. It's all well and good to know what your doing wrong and have drills to correct it, but I am never confident I am doing the drills properly. Video helps, but I it can be cumbersome to go back and view the recording. Guess I just need a better setup!

I still get my statistics through Golf Logix. I agree they are important, even if I don't want to look at them after a bad round. As far as practice, when I hit in my garage, most of the time it is without the monitor. Just hitting into a blank screen. I try to hit about 50 balls a night just on feel of contact working on something specific in the swing. I use the Skytrak about twice a week. I like to see ball flight to know what I'm working on is improving. But I agree not seeing your ball flight while practicing is beneficial.

I recently found myself in this position and I'm a 20+ handicap. About a year I lost my swing. It wasn't great before, but I could at least keep it in play. Since then I've struggled to find it. I've done lessons, I hit in my garage with a skytrak for practice and nothing seemed to be improving. But when I got out on the course, smelled the grass, realized what a good day it was, I just couldn't see myself giving up the game. My game isn't where I want it, or where it was a year ago, but I just try and grab on to the little imrpovements. Example, I slice 10% less now with my driver (although I pull 10% more) and it's really forced me to find where I'm successful like my chipping and sometimes putting. I would recommend to continue working on what's frustrating you, but really hold on to what is working and what is improving (even if it's minimal improvement) in order to hold on to your passion for the game.

I got my golf game, unfortunately it's all but useless to me. Mainly because most courses in my area have 27 holes and Golf Game (a month ago, may have been updated) won't let me combine 9's. As far as practice, I'm fortunate enough to have a setup in my garage. I go out there and hit bout 25-50 balls a night. Sadly, I'm not sure it's working and it never compares to actually seeing your ball flight. But like you, my wife has booked my weekends. Winter isn't terrible here in NM. Can still play, but it's much different and still can be to cold.

Mixed bag or all one manufacturer
Rsuslow replied to RWalker84's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I used to play a mixed bag. Mostly because I couldn't afford decent equipment when I was younger. I did get a set of Adams Golf Irons and I loved them. Now I play all Taylormade M2's. My putter is even the Taylormade Spyder. My 52 and 56 wedge are Cleavland. Those are the only non-Taylormade clubs I have. -

I didn't get to hear bones today. I was streaming through the Golf Channel App and followed the marquee groups. I look forward to listening to his insight this weekend.- 506 replies

Do you keep close watch on your score during a round?
Rsuslow replied to Valleygolfer's topic in Golf Talk
I typically look at it at the turn, and then if I feel I'm having a good round, I'll look at it around or after 16 to see what I need to do coming in to keep it a good round. -
I tried the XR's and the XR Pros at a local golf shop. I felt the same way. They just didn't look right to the eye. When I hit them, they were okay, but no better than the M2's I'm currently hitting. I hit a few shots with the Apex after and those felt much better.

Great topic. I was fortunate enough to play TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course recently. That checked off just playing a course the Pros play. After that I would say either Augusta or St. Andrews.

I'm going to eat up my mobile data watching it on my phone at work. There are so many I feel could win coming in to this. I really hope it's another first time Major Champion like Fowler or Kuchar.- 506 replies

I have a Skytrak setup in my garage, and often times, I find myself hitting into a blank screen, not using the Skytrak. I go off feel, rather than as you mentioned, trying to send the ball to a particular spot. I've found I actually make more consistent strikes when I'm hitting into it without the Skytrak. I'm more focused on what I'm doing rather than where the ball is going.

A little about me, or at least the last year. I used to shoot mid to low 90's, showing improvement. Last year, I don't know what happened, but I lost it all. I lost 20-30 yards on all my clubs. My 8 Iron used to be my money club. I could hit it dead straight 150 yards on a stock shot. When I lost my swing, I struggled to get it 130 most of the time. My other irons were never as accurate, but I knew my distances, and saw the loss on those as well. My driver was an average of 240, now I struggle to get it 210-220 (this is assuming no wind). The only thing that remained consistent and something that was improving was my short game from around the greens. I started taking lessons in October with a local guy. He's a great guy, and he is a good teacher. But, he has started to focus more on his golf career and has cut back lessons and will soon head to or try to head to Q School. The lessons have been working......when I'm there. I get home or on the course and it's all gone. He told me my plane was super shallow and I hang back. I also think there is more, we just haven't reached that point. So here I am. Looking for the advice of this fine forum. I am also considering one of the online pro's I've seen mentioned around. I've been Playing Golf for: 25 years, mostly off an on. About 6 or 7 of those were serious golf years, 4 of them being the years leading to now. My current handicap index or average score is: I average high 90's. I have my share of rounds going over 100. My lowest is an 84 at a local course that has been known to be a challenge for me. My typical ball flight is: Driver: I've fought a straight slice/banana slice for years and years. Recently I've seen a pull mixed in. I also struggle to hit the ball past 220 now, when I used to average around 240 in no-wind conditions. 3 Wood: This is a mixed bag. I struggle to make solid contact, but when I do, it's a straight slice/banana slice. I used to hit this about 220, now I struggle to get it over 190-195. Hybrid: This is also a mixed bag. I struggle making solid contact. When I do, it could be either a pull or a slice. I used to hit this about 210, now I struggle to get it 180 Irons: Either a slice or a pull. I really have been struggling making solid contact with my irons. I have found myself hitting the toe a lot. Sometimes I shank it off the hozel. Wedges: My wedge game is usually on point. But lately, I have been finding myself shanking it off the hozel. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Driver: Slice and Pull 3 Wood: Poor contact and slice Hybrid: Poor contact Irons: Poor contact Wedges: Shank I have put a few videos below of my Driver, 3 Wood, Hybrid, 5 Iron, 7 Iron, 8 Iron, PW and 52 Wedge. Each video has a face on and down the line view in full speed and 20% speed. I appreciate everyone taking the time to review! Videos: Driver 3 Wood Hybrid/Rescue 5 Iron 7 Iron 8 Iron PW 52 Sand Wedge

How to Hit a Driver (Hit it Further and Stop Slicing!)
Rsuslow replied to mvmac's topic in Swing Thoughts
I wasn't. It was recommended I get a shorter shaft. I have the M2 D Type which is draw friendly. I can still slice it, although not as much. I have somewhat developed a pull at times, slicemore often than a pull and every now and then I can pipe one, but I have lost distance on it. -
There is a lot of good information and opinions in this thread. About a year ago I lost my swing and have been working to get it back and improve since. After reading an article and seeing a YouTube video of Been Hogan practicing at like 10% (the ball only went a few feet) I tried the slow swings but I find it very difficult. I think it is because I don't know if I'm even doing what I want to work on correctly. There are a few things I've read in this thread that I plan to use in my next practice session.

How to Hit a Driver (Hit it Further and Stop Slicing!)
Rsuslow replied to mvmac's topic in Swing Thoughts
Great post. I remember seeing this a while back, maybe even before I became a member. I tried it on the range and found a few good shots, but nothing any more consistent than what I see now. I believe it's more me than the information and the fact that you can't expect a miracle fix right away. I just need to give it a try for a while. I have battled a slice all my life with the driver. Unfortunately my 3 Wood isn't any better. So that leaves me very short off the Tee. Although, I have lost a lot of distance with my driver in the past year. I tee it up low as well because I have found when I make my pivot forward, I get under the ball from a steep swing. I think this is because I lack the proper tilt and don't stay behind the ball. -
Are you a Better Golfer than a Year Ago?
Rsuslow replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I feel I am worse. I hate to say it. But about a year ago, I lost my swing. So I started taking lessons. I think the lessons are giving me a better understanding of my swing, but I have yet to really see improvement. It's been very frustrating. -
I got at it when I get over the ball. My practice swings are about 85% with great tempo. But when I get over the ball, I try to become the Hulk and crush it. I'm currently working on getting myself to swing at 85% over the ball. I've noticed I hit it farther because I'm making better contact.
