49 for nine in a chilly New Jersey this morning. I've been scoring in the mid to upper 40's for nine holes lately. Will be out there again tomorrow in the promised mid 60 temps. After voting, of course.

I've sadly found that playing well and scoring well don't necessarily happen together. Both enjoyable, though.

Thanks; I like it, too!

Finally birdied the long, 515 yd 7th hole on my local. Even sweeter was sinking the 30 foot putt. Alone, of course, but did a small happy dance.

Bogey Golfers Only (Index 16-22) / Breaking 90 Topic
Swungover replied to rkim291968's topic in Golf Talk
Shot a nice 93 today, using some recent lessons from a golfer I befriended a few weeks back. Even had an eagle putt and a number of birdie putts. If I can just start converting those... -
Snuck out enexpectedly and shot 45 for a quick nine holes. May have been my best 9 hole score this season.

How important is the practice putting green?
Swungover replied to Shindig's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
My only putting practice these days is on the first hole. That way I know the speed, the dampness, etc, for the round I am about to play. When I first started I did a lot of indoor practice. An occasional pitch and putt round is great, too. -
Private clubs now open to the public
Swungover replied to MSchott's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I noticed recently that Hopewell Valley CC is open to the public, on a limited number of annual rounds basis now. There may be some other central NJ clubs doing the same, too. -
Golfing With Strangers-The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly
Swungover replied to Gator Hazard's topic in Golf Talk
I always play as a single, and have never had a bad experience. For example, today I caught up with a twosome and asked to join. I warned them that I have a game that comes and goes. They immediately responded "We don't have a game!" After a good laugh, we had a fun round together. -
Totally agree, as I did it twice this year. Once for my driver, and again for new irons. First new set in 25 years (!). Glad I did; highly recommend doing so.

49 for 9. Very happy with it, as it was due to good ball striking rather than scrambling. Just a good, solid honest round. Tomorrow? Well, let's see...

I am reading Zeitoun, an account of one man and his family surviving Katrina. Great read!

My score and the heat index yesterday and today were 103 here in central NJ. Let's see what tomorrow brings with a bit less heat and humidity in the forecast.

The psychology of blowing up: How do you stop it?
Swungover replied to ol 3 putts's topic in Golf Talk
God yes; my exact problem. Had my blowup hole on the second today. Tee shot and subsequent mulligan both off the toe and lost. Drop one, topped it three times straight! Finally on the green for a three putt. Why? All my normal rules and routines went right ou the window as I proceeded to try and kill the ball. Arrggghhh -
Shot of the day, on the 4th hole at Bunker hill GC, a par 3. Sadly, I was taking my third shot, hoping for a 5. A sand wedge from next to the cart, as seen in the picture, arced through the air, hit the flagstick in the distance about 4 feet up. Ball ran down the stick as if on a rail, right in the hole to make par. Of course I was playing alone, but a shot of a lifetime to be sure!

Today I was a good ballstriker, both on the tee and fairway. However, my usually decent putting turned to 3 putt after 3 putt, which resulted in a 103. Arrggghhh... Tomorrow I try again to excel in this crazy game.

Yesterday I drove the fringe on two par 4s. With visions of birdies in my head, carded a 4 and 5 respectively. Ouch!
-
Voted KIS due to the new club phenomena. Prove me right!
-
I only remember my first bird, on the 11th hole at my local, a par 4. Great tee shot, followed by an equally great iron left me 4" from the hole. This was in 1991. Just a few months later I made a second birdie on the 13th hole there. This one was a chip from a green side bunker that rolled about 25 foot into the hole. Of course, I was alone for both of these!

Ok, i broke 100 i own and read LSW Thanks!

I voted no because it is the golf courses business to operate efficiently. Secondly, as a retiree that plays at least 3 weekday rounds, I show up as a single most days. And get paired up with some of the nicest people. Just happy to be out playing the game of golf..
-
Better ball striking with longer irons, in a nutshell. Got a decent drive most days, and good putting. Strangely, I'm happier with a round of good iron shots, irrespective of the scorecard.

Music on a golf course is about as bad as playing Pokemon Go at a Beyoncé concert! seriously, please don't on my course. Mindfulness ....
